Purpose: To analyze the accuracy of the defining characteristics of hypothermia in newborns and to verify associations between defining characteristics and clinical variables.

Methods: A cross-sectional accuracy study with statistical analysis.

Findings: Slow capillary refill, decrease in ventilation, peripheral vasoconstriction, and insufficient weight gain were the defining characteristics with the highest specificity values, while slow gastric emptying, skin cool to touch, irritability, and bradycardia were the defining characteristics with the highest values for both sensitivity and specificity.

Conclusion: Slow gastric emptying, skin cool to touch, irritability, and bradycardia are good clinical indicators to infer initial stages of hypothermia and to confirm its presence.

Implications For Nursing Practice: Accuracy measures may contribute to the improvement of the diagnostic inferential process.

Importance: While urban counties maintain higher densities of ophthalmologists than rural counties, the geographic distribution of ophthalmic surgical subspecialists has not yet been elucidated. A potential workforce discrepancy may impact the burden of care faced by rural surgeons.

Objective: To assess the geographic distribution of the ophthalmic subspecialist surgeon workforce and evaluate factors associated with practicing in rural areas.

Introduction: In solid-organ transplant (SOT) recipients, while survival rates have improved with immunosuppressive therapies, the risk of opportunistic infections has also increased. This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of pneumonia, identify microbiological factors, investigate diagnostic methods, and analyse prognosis.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted to identify adult SOT recipients referred to the pulmonary diseases department with a preliminary pneumonia diagnosis between 2011 and 2019.

SARS-CoV-2 Envelope (E) protein is critical in viral assembly, release, and virulence. E gene was considered highly conserved and evolving slowly. Pan-sarbecoviruses-conserved regions in the E gene have been used as targets for various RT-PCR assays to detect SARS-CoV-2.

In 2019, COVID-19 began one of the greatest public health challenges in history, reaching pandemic status the following year. Systems capable of predicting individuals at higher risk of progressing to severe forms of the disease could optimize the allocation and direction of resources. In this work, we evaluated the performance of different Machine Learning algorithms when predicting clinical outcomes of patients hospitalized with COVID-19, using clinical data from hospital admission alone.
