Calcium phosphate cement (CPC) that is based on -tricalcium phosphate (-TCP) is considered desirable for bone tissue engineering because of its relatively rapid degradation properties. However, such cement is relatively weak, restricting its use to areas of low mechanical stress. fibers (WF) have been used to improve the mechanical strength of biomaterials. However, the biological properties of WF remain poorly understood. Here, we tested the response of osteoblast-like cells to being cultured on CPC reinforced with 5% of WF (CPC-WF). We found that both types of cement studied achieved an ion balance for calcium and phosphate after 3 days of immersion in culture medium and this allowed subsequent long-term cell culture. CPC-WF increased cell viability and stimulated cell differentiation, compared to nonreinforced CPC. We hypothesize that late silicon release by CPC-WF induces increased cell proliferation and differentiation. Based on our findings, we propose that CPC-WF is a promising material for bone tissue engineering applications.
Introduction: Tooth extraction initiates a cascade of homeostatic and structural modifications within the periodontal tissues, culminating in alveolar ridge resorption. To prevent ridge resorption following extraction and facilitate successful placement of an implant-supported prosthesis, alveolar ridge preservation was performed.
Methods: In this study, the biocompatibility of a nanocomposite consisting of self-assembling peptide nanofibers (organic phase) and tri-calcium phosphate-nano hydroxyapatite (mineral phase), was evaluated in rabbits.
Teeth undergo continuous demineralization and remineralization influenced by dietary acid and saliva. Excessive dietary acid attack disrupts this balance, exposing dentin tubules and causing dental hypersensitivity (DH). Due to low acid resistance, traditional anti-DH regents such as calcium phosphate minerals fail in long-term occlusion of dentin tubules, resulting in recurrent attacks of DH.
Melanoma, a malignant skin tumor, presents significant treatment challenges, particularly in unresectable and metastatic cases. While immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting PD-1/PD-L1 have brought new hope, their efficacy is limited by low response rates and significant immune-mediated adverse events (irAEs). Through multi-omics data analysis, it is discovered that the spatial co-localization of CD73 and PD-L1 in melanoma correlates with improved progression-free survival (PFS), suggesting a synergistic potential of their inhibitors.
Statement Of The Problem: Dentin bonding with etch-and-rinse adhesives involves demineralizing the 5-8µm of the surface dentin to create micro space for resin infiltration. The presence of continuous fluid movement in dentin tubules and positive pulpal pressure prevents complete water replacement by resin monomers. This results in areas of demineralized dentin, which contain collagen fibers without resin infiltration.
