Massage therapy practice as well as research in massage therapy is guided by ethical principles and boundaries of professional behavior. Scientific publishing is also guided by a set of ethical standards, about which all aspiring scientific authors should be aware. Honesty, integrity, and conflicts of interest are issues in science and these issues can also impact scientific publishing. Historical ethical issues and current events are discussed.

Objectives: The inclusion of social drivers of health (SDOH) into predictive algorithms of health outcomes has potential for improving algorithm interpretation, performance, generalizability, and transportability. However, there are limitations in the availability, understanding, and quality of SDOH variables, as well as a lack of guidance on how to incorporate them into algorithms when appropriate to do so. As such, few published algorithms include SDOH, and there is substantial methodological variability among those that do.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large class of chemicals of concern for both human and environmental health because of their ubiquitous presence in the environment, persistence, and potential toxicological effects. Despite this, ecological hazard data are limited to a small number of PFAS even though there are over 4000 identified PFAS. Traditional toxicity testing will likely be inadequate to generate necessary hazard information for risk assessment.
