Purpose: To evaluate the optical coherence tomography (OCT) color probability codes based on a myopic normative database and to investigate whether the implementation of the myopic normative database can improve the OCT diagnostic ability in myopic glaucoma.

Design: Comparative validity study.

Methods: In this study, 305 eyes (154 myopic healthy eyes and 151 myopic glaucoma eyes) were included. A myopic normative database was obtained based on myopic healthy eyes. We evaluated the agreement between OCT color probability codes after applying the built-in and myopic normative databases, respectively. Another 120 eyes (60 myopic healthy eyes and 60 myopic glaucoma eyes) were included and the diagnostic performance of OCT color codes using a myopic normative database was investigated.

Results: The mean weighted kappa (Kw) coefficients for quadrant retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, clock-hour RNFL thickness, and ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thickness were 0.636, 0.627, and 0.564, respectively. The myopic normative database showed a higher specificity than did the built-in normative database in quadrant RNFL thickness, clock-hour RNFL thickness, and GCIPL thickness (P < .001, P < .001, and P < .001, respectively). The receiver operating characteristic curve values increased when using the myopic normative database in quadrant RNFL thickness, clock-hour RNFL thickness, and GCIPL thickness (P = .011, P = .004, P < .001, respectively).

Conclusion: The diagnostic ability of OCT color codes for detection of myopic glaucoma significantly improved after application of the myopic normative database. The implementation of a myopic normative database is needed to allow more precise interpretation of OCT color probability codes when used in myopic eyes.

How to diagnose glaucoma in myopic eyes by detecting structural changes?

Myopia is rapidly escalating globally, especially in East and Southeast Asia, where its prevalence among younger populations reaches alarming levels of 80 to 90%. This surge contributes to a myopia epidemic linked to several ocular complications, including glaucoma. As myopic individuals age, the risk of developing glaucoma increases, and an additional concern arises from the growing frequency of refractive surgeries among younger individuals, making precise optic nerve assessments critical before surgery.

The impact of cognitive bias about infectious diseases on social well-being.

Introduction: We investigate the relationship between bias, that is, cognitive distortions about the severity of infectious disease and social well-being.

Materials And Methods: First, we establish empirically the existence of bias and analyze some of its causes; specifically, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Second, we derive an integrated economic-epidemiological differential equation model from an agent-based model that combines myopic rational choice with infectious disease dynamics.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how optic disc torsion (ODT), horizontal disc tilt (HDT) angle, and ovality index (OI) affect the thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) in healthy myopic eyes.
  • Measurements were taken from fundus photographs and swept-source optical coherence tomography, with adjustments for age and axial length.
  • Results showed that OI and HDT angle correlated with variations in RNFL and GCIPL thickness, indicating that optic disc morphology should be factored into developing myopic normative databases.

Purpose: To determine the mean value and normative distribution of intraocular pressure (IOP) in children and their association with demographic and ocular biometrics.

Methods: Cluster sampling was done to select the students in urban areas of Shahroud, northeast Iran, while all students living in rural areas were selected. IOP was measured in mmHg using a non-contact tonometer, along with corneal and retinal imaging and ocular biometric measurement.

Objective: Aim: To determine the peculiarities of character traits of patients with myopia at different levels of anxiety and depression.

Patients And Methods: Materials and Methods: 30 patients with moderate myopia and mild myopic astigmatism in both eyes were examined. The "Kettel Test" was used to study the characteristics of the patient's character, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale was used to assess the levels of anxiety and depression.
