A new thin layer chromatographic layer using gold nanoparticles grafted 3-triethoxysilyl propylamine modified silica gel (Au NPs-APTS modified silica gel) was developed as a stationary phase for separation and determination of two steroid hormones, namely progesterone and testosterone. Acetone-n-hexane 25:75 (v/v) was used as the mobile phase, and the results were compared with those obtained using plain (i.e., unmodified) silica gel plates. Some chromatographic parameters used for separation of the two steroids on an Au NPs-APTS modified silica gel plate as well as on a plain silica gel plate, including ΔR, separation factor (α), and resolution (R), were evaluated and compared. The reproducibility of R values was also determined by analysis of the two steroids in 7 consecutive days on both plates. Validity of the method was investigated, and a wide linear range of 1-200 ng per spot, and low detection limits of 0.16 ng and 0.13 ng per spot, low quantification limits of 0.51 ng and 0.40 ng per spot, and good precision (expressed as percent relative standard deviation) lower than 3.1% and 2.7% were obtained for progesterone and testosterone, respectively. As the results revealed, the proposed method is rapid and sensitive, and it is applicable to separation and determination of progesterone and testosterone in biological matrices such as urine samples.

The search for alternative material sources to conventional ones has had a significant impact on the construction sector today, driven by the implementation of sustainable development policies on a global scale. Alternative cementitious materials, such as agricultural industry by-products, have been introduced to ensure the efficient use of renewable natural resources while promoting a balance between the technical and economic aspects of infrastructure projects. This article provides an overview of research conducted on the use of pozzolans derived from agro-industrial by-products, such as rice husk ash (RHA), palm oil fuel ash (POFA), and sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA), which have a high content of amorphous silica.

State Key Laboratory of Natural Medicines, School of Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, China Pharmaceutical University, No. 639 Longmian Road, Nanjing, 211198, China.

Background: Cell membrane chromatography (CMC) is a biochromatography with a dual function of recognition and separation, offering a distinct advantage in screening bioactive compounds from Chinese medicines (CMs). Yindan Xinnaotong soft capsule (YD), a CM formulation, has been widely utilized in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. However, a comprehensive mapping of the myocardial protective active compounds remains elusive.

In this study, polyamide/silica/sodium alginate (SA) composite (PA-Si-SA) was successfully prepared in one-step benzoxazine-isocyanide chemistry (BIC)/sol-gel process at room temperature. The chemical structure and fundamental properties of PA-Si-SA were characterized by FT-IR, solid-state C NMR, XPS, XRD, SEM, BET and TG, etc. The presence of anionic SA and diverse N, O-containing functional segments (amide, tertiary amine, alkyl/phenol -OH, Si-O-Si, and COO) in PA-Si-SA endows it synergistic complexation capability toward Pb and Cd.

This work aimed to extract silica from combination of rice husk (RH and Rice straw (RS) by optimizing the ash digesting process parameters with the aid of response surface methodology (RSM). The effects of three independent ash digestion process factors like sodium hydroxide concentration (1-3 M), temperature (60-120 °C) and time (1-3 h), for silica production from the mixture of rice husk (RH) and rice straw (RS) were studied. A quadratic model was used to correlate the interaction effects of the independent variables for maximum silica production at the optimum process parameters by employing central composite design (CCD) with RSM.
