Pollen characters in Araceae accord well with recent DNA-based phylogenies, and here we provide a new example of "compass needle" quality in Araceae on the basis of two closely related genera, and . All investigated pollen is psilate (smooth pollen surface) with calcium crystals covering the pollen surface. By contrast, pollen of species transferred to recently resurrected ( and ) is distinctively echinate (spiny). A unique layer covers the endexine of , and the whole pollen surface of . Our findings strongly suggest that "" species with echinate pollen fall into the genus . Moreover, all schismatoglottid taxa perform spathe movements during anthesis to control the movement of pollinators. The spathe movements of clearly differ from those known in species, and indeed are so far unique for the entire family. This, together with differences in floral odour is strongly suggestive of differences in pollination ecology between the genera and .

Intravesical instillation is essential for bladder cancer treatment, but current therapy suffers from brief drug retention and insufficient contact bladder contact. Nano- and micro-sized capsules-based drug delivery systems are expected to solve these problems, which, however, face challenges such as weak mucoadhesion, low biosafety, and processing complexity, limiting their scalable application. Pollen sources and deposition processes in shallow lakes in densely populated plain areas are complicated, more modern studies are needed to establish the relationship between pollen and vegetation, so as to provide accurate indicators for environmental reconstruction. In this study, 23 surface sediments were collected from Changdang Lake in the Taihu Lake basin (covering inlets, outlets, and open water areas) for discussing the indicative significance of pollen on regional land cover and aquatic plants in the lake. The results show that the terrestrial pollen assemblages in surface sediments can reflect the main vegetation types in the watershed.

Airborne pollen is considered to be one of the air pollutants that can cause allergic reactions in humans, leading to the occurrence or aggravation of a series of allergic diseases. The latest study showed that the positive rate of pollen allergens in allergic rhinitis patients in urban areas of Beijing exceeded 80%. Accurate prediction of pollen content could provide more effective assistance to susceptible populations.
