Subsets of extraocular motoneurons produce kinematically distinct saccades during hunting and exploration.

Animals construct diverse behavioral repertoires by moving a limited number of body parts with varied kinematics and patterns of coordination. There is evidence that distinct movements can be generated by changes in activity dynamics within a common pool of motoneurons or by selectively engaging specific subsets of motoneurons in a task-dependent manner. However, in most cases, we have an incomplete understanding of the patterns of motoneuron activity that generate distinct actions and of how upstream premotor circuits select and assemble such motor programs.

The human cerebral cortex is known for its hemispheric specialization, which underpins a variety of functions and activities. However, it is not well understood if similar lateralization exists within the deep gray matter nuclei, such as the basal ganglia (BG) and thalamus, and their associated arteries, including the lenticulostriate arteries (LSAs). To explore this, we analyzed images from 7T MRI scans of 40 healthy young individuals.

Social cognition spans from perceiving agents and their interactions to making inferences based on theory of mind (ToM). Despite their frequent co-occurrence in real life, the commonality and distinction between social interaction perception and ToM at behavioral and neural levels remain unclear. Here, participants ( = 231) provided moment-by-moment ratings of four text and four audio narratives on social interactions and ToM engagement.

We performed a systematic review of the localizational value of disturbances of self-integration, depersonalization and forced thinking in focal epilepsy with the aim to summarize the state-of-the-art anatomo-clinical correlations in the field and help guide interpretation of ictal semiology within the framework of pre-surgical evaluation. The review was performed using a PRISMA- and QUADAS2-based approach. Three separate PubMed and EMBASE searches were undertaken using the keywords self-integration, depersonalization and forced thinking, along with synonyms, in combination with terms to identify epileptogenic zone as defined by surgical outcome, MRI-findings or intracranially recorded EEG.

Sleep Deprivation in Healthy Males Increases Muscle Afferents, Impairing Motor Preparation and Reducing Endurance.

J Clin Neurophysiol

Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, INSERM, Clinical Investigation Center 1402, Research Team Is-Alive, University of Poitiers, Poitiers, France.

Purpose: Sleep deprivation (SD) reduces time to task failure during endurance exercises. The aim of our work was to study the effect of acute SD on the endurance of a skeletal hand muscle and to investigate cortical motor drive to muscle and perception of effort.

Methods: Origin of the early exhaustion after SD might be insufficient cortical motor drive to muscle or motor inhibition because of excessive perception of effort.
