An 88-year-old male with a history of cervical spondylosis (status post laminectomy of C2-C3 and laminoplasty of C4-C5), chronic congestive heart failure (CHF), pulmonary embolism, and lumbar spinal stenosis presented to an outpatient sports medicine clinic with neck pain following a fall five days prior due to loss of balance. He reported pain on the left side worsened by movement and accompanied by neck "clicking." A physical exam showed severe limitation in cervical spine extension limited by pain and loss of lordotic curve and a neurologic exam demonstrated weakness in the left leg secondary to a previous back surgery.

Purpose: To compare long-term care escalation encounters among three care patterns for new episodes of neck pain among Medicare beneficiaries.
Methods: We examined Medicare claims spanning a four-year period for beneficiaries with new episodes of neck pain beginning in 2019. All patients were continuously enrolled under Medicare parts A, B, and D and aged 65-99 years.

Complementary therapies are used to treat many pediatric symptoms and health conditions, and chiropractic care is one of the most commonly used forms of complementary therapies by children and adolescents. Research studies have investigated the evidence behind and safety of chiropractic care in pediatrics with various musculoskeletal and non-musculoskeletal conditions. There are limited data with a range of findings and often no definite conclusion.

Objective: To elucidate how spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) exerts its analgesic effects through regulating brain function in lumbar disc herniation (LDH) patients by utilizing resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI).
Methods: From September 2021 to September 2023, we enrolled LDH patients (LDH group, n=31) and age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs, n=28). LDH group underwent rs-fMRI at 2 distinct time points (TPs): prior to the initiation of SMT (TP1) and subsequent to the completion of the SMT sessions (TP2).

Background: Despite the progress made in better understanding the potential mechanisms of spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) and its treatment effects, a knowledge gap continues to exist when identifying the specific factors that contribute to the perceived treatment effect associated with SMT. The purpose of the study was to explore the perceptions of chiropractic clinicians, interns, and patients regarding what factors during a doctor-patient encounter contribute to the perceived treatment effect associated with SMT.
Methods: This study used convenience sampling to enroll participants from a chiropractic teaching clinic in the United States.
