Aim: Management of procedural pain in burn care is challenging. Lidocaine-prilocaine cream 5%, eutectic mixture of local anesthetics (EMLA®), is a widely used, effective local anesthetic cream approved for normal intact skin, genital mucosa for superficial surgical procedures, and debridement of chronic leg ulcers. This comprehensive review aimed to determine the safety, analgesic efficacy, and effects of EMLA on burn pathophysiology to provide evidence-based clinical recommendations for introducing the topical anesthetic into burn care.

The development of methaemoglobinaemia due to prilocaine, which is used for local anaesthesia, is a rare, life-threatening, but well-known side effect. The development of this side-effect in a pregnant patient with chronic kidney disease can lead to foetal distress. The case presented here is of a 21-year old pregnant female with chronic kidney disease who required haemodialysis in the 22nd week of pregnancy due to the progression to end-stage kidney disease.

Prilocaine-induced methemoglobinemia is a rarely seen condition. In this paper, a case is presented with methemoglobinemia developed secondary to prilocaine use in a liposuction procedure, and the importance of this rarely seen condition is emphasized. A 20-year-old female patient presented with complaints of prostration, lassitude, shivering, shortness of breath, and cyanosis.
