Background: The treatment options to delay the progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN), a key contributor to chronic kidney disease (CKD), are urgently needed. Previous studies reported that traditional Chinese medicine Panax notoginseng (PNG) exerted beneficial effects on DN. However, the renoprotective effects of Notoginsenoside R2 (NR2), an active component of PNG, on DN have not been investigated.

Background & Aims: Approved drugs for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) are limited, although it has become the most common chronic liver disease worldwide. 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone (PMP) possesses various biological effects such as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. However, the effects and underlying mechanism of PMP in MASH remain unclear.

Insulin-Sensitizing Properties of Decoctions from Leaves, Stems, and Roots of L.

Molecules

December 2024

Department of Biochemistry, School of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa P. O. Box 9086, Ethiopia.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease characterized by insulin resistance and impaired beta-cell secretory function. Since existing treatments often present side effects based on different mechanisms, alternative therapeutic options are needed. In this scenario, the present study first evaluates the cytotoxicity of decoctions from the leaves, stems, and roots of L.

Solid lipid nanoparticles for increased oral bioavailability of acalabrutinib in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

Discov Nano

December 2024

Department of Pharmacy, Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani, BITS-Pilani Hyderabad Campus, Jawahar Nagar, Kapra Mandal, Medchal District, Telangana, 500078, India.

Acalabrutinib (ACP) is a first-line treatment for chronic lymphocytic leukemia but suffers from poor and variable oral bioavailability due to its pH-dependent solubility, CYP3A4 metabolism, and P-gp efflux. Thus, the objective of this study was to improve the solubility and dissolution behaviour, in turn enhancing bioavailability, by formulating solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs). ACP loaded SLNs (ACP-SLNs) were prepared via solvent-free hot emulsification followed by a double sonication process.

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD), which is emerging as a pervasive global health concern and a considerable economic burden, is characterized by a detrimental effect on renal function and structure. Recent research indicates that the progression of DKD is facilitated by lipotoxic injury to tubular epithelial cells (TECs). However, the specific mechanisms that contribute to this cellular damage have yet to be fully elucidated.
