Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is a significant health issue that increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and renal failure. This condition broadly encompasses both primary and secondary forms. Despite extensive research, the underlying mechanisms of systemic arterial hypertension-particularly primary hypertension, which has no identifiable cause and is affected by genetic and lifestyle agents-remain complex and not fully understood.

CaMKIIγ advances chronic intermittent hypoxia-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis via HIF-1 signaling pathway.

Sleep Breath

January 2025

Nantong Key Laboratory of Translational Medicine in Cardiothoracic Diseases, and Research Institution of Translational Medicine in Cardiothoracic Diseases, Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, Nantong, Jiangsu, 226001, China.

Background: Our previous study have demonstrated chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis and cardiac dysfunction. However, the molecular mechanisms are complicated and varied. In this study, we first investigated the CaMKIIγ expression and signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of cardiomyocyte apoptosis after CIH.

Worldwide elimination of malaria remains a challenge yet to be accomplished, and the domain of malaria relapse equally remains obtuse. Yet sophisticated cell culture and screening techniques and animal models are being constructed and molecular regulations are discovered in this intriguing discipline. An elaborate understanding of these schemes is mandatory to conceive effective therapeutic strategies.

Range and accuracy of in-plane anisotropic thermal conductivity measurement using the laser-based Ångstrom method.

Rev Sci Instrum

January 2025

Birck Nanotechnology Center and the School of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana 47907, USA.

High heat fluxes in electronic devices must be effectively dissipated to prevent local hotspots, which are critical for long-term device reliability. In particular, advanced semiconductor packaging trends toward thin form factor products increase the need for understanding and improving in-plane conduction heat spreading in anisotropic materials. The 2D laser-based Ångstrom method, an extension of traditional Ångstrom and lock-in thermography techniques, measures in-plane thermal properties of anisotropic sheet-like materials.

Endovascular interventions excel in treating cardiovascular diseases in a minimally invasive manner, showing improved outcomes over open techniques. However, challenges related to precise navigation - still relying on 2D fluoroscopy - persist. This review examines the role of robotics, highlighting commercial and research platforms, while exploring emerging trends like MRI compatibility, enhanced navigation, and autonomy.
