H translocation by weak acid uncouplers is independent of H electrochemical gradient.

Published: October 2017

According to the common view, weak acid uncouplers increase proton conductance of biological (and phospholipid bilayer) membranes, thus effecting H fluxes driven by their electrochemical gradients. Under certain conditions, however, uncouplers can induce unexpected effects opposite to the dissipation of H gradients. Results are presented here demonstrating CCCP-induced proton influx into Saccharomyces cerevisiae cytosol driven by the electrochemical potentials of CCCP and its CCCP anions, independent of electrochemical H-gradient. Another view of week acid uncouplers' action is proposed that is logically consistent with these observations.

Objective: To develop and validate a prognostic model for risk-stratified monitoring of 5-aminosalicylate nephrotoxicity.

Methods: This UK retrospective cohort study used data from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink Aurum and Gold for model development and validation respectively. It included adults newly diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease and established on 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) treatment between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2019.

From solubility to efficiency: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) regeneration from anion exchange resins.

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA 19122, USA. Electronic address:

This study investigated the regenerability of anion exchange resins for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), focusing on the interaction between regenerant composition and resin characteristics. The influence of salt type and concentration on PFAS solubility revealed a general decline in perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS) solubility with increased salt concentrations, most strongly with KCl followed by NaCl and NHCl. Mixed solubility results were observed for perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS).

Lyophilized and Oven-Dried Extracts: Characterization and , , and Analyses.

Plants (Basel)

January 2025

Tecnologico de Monterrey, Escuela de Ingeniería y Ciencias, Av. Gral. Ramón Corona No 2514, Colonia Nuevo México, Zapopan 45121, Mexico.

In this work, extracts from the pulp, peel, and seed of were obtained via lyophilization and oven drying. Bromatological analyses were performed to investigate variabilities in the nutritional content of fruits after nine post-harvest days. The phytochemical content of fruits was assessed by gas chromatography flame ionization detector (GC-FID), and their biological performance was studied using antibacterial and antioxidant assays (DPPH and ABTS) and toxicity models.

Poly(amic acid)-Polyimide Copolymer Interfacial Layers for Self-Powered CHNHPbI Photovoltaic Photodiodes.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Electrical and Biological Physics, Kwangwoon University, Wolgye-Dong, Seoul 01897, Republic of Korea.

Hybrid organohalide perovskites have received considerable attention due to their exceptional photovoltaic (PV) conversion efficiencies in optoelectronic devices. In this study, we report the development of a highly sensitive, self-powered perovskite-based photovoltaic photodiode (PVPD) fabricated by incorporating a poly(amic acid)-polyimide (PAA-PI) copolymer as an interfacial layer between a methylammonium lead iodide (CHNHPbI, MAPbI) perovskite light-absorbing layer and a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT: PSS) hole injection layer. The PAA-PI interfacial layer effectively suppresses carrier recombination at the interfaces, resulting in a high power conversion efficiency () of 11.

Olive cake was incorporated at a low inclusion rate (3.7%) into the rations of dairy cows through partial substitution of maize, and its effects on milk production, general health, and fertility traits were investigated. Multiparous purebred Holstein dairy cows (n = 148) were divided into two groups: a treated group (n = 86) and a control group (n = 62).
