We present a strategy for robustly cross-linking self-assembled lamellar mesophases made from plant-derived materials to generate polymer nanosheets decorated with a high density of functional groups. We formulate a supramoleclar complex by hydrogen-bonding conjugated linoleic acid moieties to a structure-directing tribasic aromatic core. The resulting constructs self-assemble into a thermotropic lamellar mesophase. Photo-cross-linking the mesophase with the aid of an acrylate cross-linker yields a polymeric material with high-fidelity retention of the lamellar mesophase structure. Transmission electron microscopy images demonstrate the preservation of the large area, highly ordered layered nanostructures in the polymer. Subsequent extraction of the tribasic core and neutralization of the carboxyl groups by NaOH result in exfoliation of polymer nanosheets with a uniform thickness of ∼3 nm. The nanosheets have a large specific area of ∼800 m/g, are decorated by negatively charged carboxylate groups at a density of 4 nm, and exhibit the ability to readily adsorb positively charged colloidal particles. The strategy as presented combines supramolecular self-assembly with the use of renewable or sustainably derived materials in a scalable manner. The resulting nanosheets have potential for use as adsorbents and, with further development, rheology modifiers.

The regulation of the f-f transition is the basis of utilizing the abundant optical properties of lanthanide (Ln), of which the key is to modulate the local environment of Ln ions. Here, we constructed Eu(III)-based unit-cell-sized ultrathin nanowires (UCNWs) with red luminescence and polymer-like behavior, which appears as an ideal carrier for regulating f-f transition. The f-f transition of Eu(III) in UCNWs could be precisely regulated through various ligands.

High-performance bulk graphite (HPBG) that simultaneously integrates superior electrical conductivity and excellent strength is in high demand, yet it remains critical and challenging. Herein a novel approach is introduced utilizing MOF-derived nanoporous metal/carbon composites as precursors to circumvent this traditional trade-off. The resulting bulk graphite, composed of densely packed multilayered graphene sheets functionalized with diverse cobalt forms (nanoparticles, single atoms, and clusters), exhibits unprecedented electrical conductivity in all directions (in-plane: 7311 S cm⁻¹, out-of-plane: 5541 S cm⁻¹) and excellent mechanical strength (flexural: 101.

ConspectusStructural DNA nanotechnology offers a unique self-assembly toolbox to construct soft materials of arbitrary complexity, through bottom-up approaches including DNA origami, brick, wireframe, and tile-based assemblies. This toolbox can be expanded by incorporating interactions orthogonal to DNA base-pairing such as metal coordination, small molecule hydrogen bonding, π-stacking, fluorophilic interactions, or the hydrophobic effect. These interactions allow for hierarchical and long-range organization in DNA supramolecular assemblies through a DNA-minimal approach: the use of fewer unique DNA sequences to make complex structures.

Currently, polymer actuators capable of photothermal response are being developed to be more sensitive and repeatable. In this work, a three-layered structured soft film actuator (NA/PET/NI-3) was designed by combining poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM), poly(N-(2-aminoethyl)-acrylamide) (PANGA) and poly(ethylene glycol-co-terephthalate) (PET) film. Coconut water and PEI were used to synthesize a new kind of carbon nanosheet (PEI-CCS), which, when triggered by near-infrared light, will enable photothermal bending behavior in the micrometer-scale NA/PET/NI-n film, while PET served as the supporting and heat conducting layer.

An ultrasensitive and selective voltammetric platform combined a molecularly imprinted poly(pyrrole) membrane with Ag-nanoparticle-functionalized black phosphorus nanosheets (MIP/BPNS-AgNPs) was developed for trace GAT detection. The physicochemical properties of the MIP/BPNS-AgNPs were studied by various spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. BPNS-AgNPs improved the ambient stability and electrochemical activity of the BPNS and possessed a large surface area for accommodating abundant templates to produce specific imprinted sites.
