Background: School-based dental programs target high-risk communities and reduce barriers to obtaining dental services by delivering care to students in their schools. We describe the evaluation of a school-based dental program operating in Chelsea, a city north of Boston, with a low-income and largely minority population, by comparing participants' oral health to a Massachusetts oral health assessment.

Methods: Standardized dental screenings were conducted for students in kindergarten, third, and sixth grades. Outcomes were compared in bivariate analysis, stratified by grade and income levels.

Results: A greater percentage of Chelsea students had untreated decay and severe treatment need than students statewide. Yet, fewer Chelsea third graders had severe treatment need, and more had dental sealants. There was no significant difference in the percentage of Chelsea students having severe treatment need or dental sealants by income level.

Conclusions: Students participating in our program do not have lower decay levels than students statewide. However, they do have lower levels of severe treatment need, likely due to treatment referrals. Our results confirm that school-based prevention programs can lead to increased prevalence of dental sealants among high-risk populations. Results provide support for the establishment of full-service school-based programs in similar communities.

This study investigated severity, course and patterns of fatigue surrounding subcutaneous biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (bDMARD) injection in inflammatory rheumatic disease (IRD) patients using ecological momentary assessments and investigated self-reported adverse drug reactions (ADRs). In this prospective cohort study, IRD patients completed fatigue severity numeric rating scales (0-10) in web-based ecological momentary assessments in three waves of five days surrounding bDMARD injection. The course of fatigue was measured by the change in fatigue from pre-dosing to post-dosing scores and was classified as: worsening, improving or no clinically relevant change.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a severe inflammatory condition of the respiratory system, associated with high morbidity and mortality. This study investigates the therapeutic potential of tocilizumab (TZ), an IL-6 receptor inhibitor, in mitigating lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI by modulating the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) pathway. An ALI model was established using LPS induction.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening hereditary disease resulting from mutations in the Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) gene that encodes a chloride channel essential for ion transport in epithelial cells. Mutations in CFTR, notably the prevalent F508del mutation, impair chloride transport, severely affecting the respiratory system and leading to recurrent infections. Recent therapeutic advancements include CFTR modulators such as ETI, a combination of two correctors (Elexacaftor and Tezacaftor) and a potentiator (Ivacaftor), that can improve CFTR function in patients with the F508del mutation.

Background: Cardiac involvement in amyloid light chain (AL) amyloidosis significantly influences prognosis, necessitating timely diagnosis and meticulous risk stratification.

Objectives: This prospective study aimed to delineate the molecular phenotypes of AL cardiac amyloidosis (AL-CA) by characterizing fibro-amyloid deposition using F-florbetapir and gallium-68-labeled fibroblast activation protein inhibitor-04 (Ga-FAPI-04) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) imaging. The authors also proposed a novel molecular stratification methodology for prognosis.

Objective: To investigate how estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline following sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) initiation predicts long-term cardiorenal outcomes.

Methods: From 2016 to 2020, a longitudinal cohort of 4942 diabetic patients treated with SGLT2i were enrolled and followed until December 2021. Patients were categorized into mild (≤30%), moderate (>30%∼≤40%) and severe (>40%) decline groups by the maximal eGFR change between 2 to 12 weeks after SGLT2i treatment.
