The capacity of the photo electro-Fenton (PEF) process to degrade a mixture of seven polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners was studied. Boron-doped diamond (BDD) sheets were used as anode and cathode in the experimental electrolytic cell that contained NaSO 0.05 M at pH 3 as supporting electrolyte for the electro generation of HO at the cathode. The effects of UV light intensity (254 and 365 nm), current density (8, 16 and 24 mA cm) and ferrous ion dosage (0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mM) on PCB (C = 50 μg L) degradation were evaluated. The highest level of PCB degradation (97%) was achieved with 16 mA cm of current density, 0.1 mM of ferrous ion and UV light at 365 nm as irradiation source after 6 h of reaction. PCB28, PCB52 and PCB101 were not detected after 0.5, 1.5 and 3 h of reaction, respectively. The degradation of PCB138, PCB153, PCB180 and PCB209 was also high (>95%). The PEF system outperformed other oxidation processes (electro-Fenton, anodic oxidation, Fenton, photo-Fenton and UV photolysis) in terms of reaction rate and degradation efficiency. These results demonstrate for the first time the degradation of PCB209, the most highly chlorinated PCB congener, by an advanced electrochemical oxidation process.

Doped semiconductors can exhibit metallic-like properties ranging from superconductivity to tunable localized surface plasmon resonances. Diamond is a wide-bandgap semiconductor that is rendered electronically active by incorporating a hole dopant, boron. While the effects of boron doping on the electronic band structure of diamond are well-studied, any link between charge carriers and plasmons has never been shown.

Understanding how to tune the properties of electroactive materials is a key parameter for their applications in energy storage systems. This work presents a comprehensive study in tailoring polyaniline (PANI) suspensions by acid-assisted polymerization method and their subsequent deposition on boron-doped diamond (BDD) supports with low/high B concentrations. The porous or densely packed morphology of PANI is successfully controlled by varying the monomer-to-initiator ratio.

Various electrochemical tests were carried out to elucidate the electrolytic oxidation mechanism of oxalic acid on a boron-doped diamond electrode in a nitric acid environment. These included cyclic voltammetry, AC impedance, constant current electrolysis, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. The impact of electrode potential, current density, nitric acid concentration, and electrode plate spacing on the oxidation of oxalic acid was investigated.

The highly efficient degradation of persistent organic substances by electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs), which don't result in the formation of potentially harmful by-products, is crucial for the future of water management. In this study, boron-doped diamond electrodes (BDDE) with three morphologies (planar 2D, microstructured 2D, and macroporous 3D) were employed for the anodic oxidation of diclofenac (DCF) in two working electrolytes (NaCl and NaSO). In total, 11 by-products formed during the electrochemical oxidation of DCF were identified via HPLC-HRMS.

In this work, we pioneered the preparation of diamond-containing flexible electrodes using 3D printing technology. The herein developed procedure involves a unique integration of boron-doped diamond (BDD) microparticles and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) within a flexible polymer, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Initially, the process for the preparation of homogeneous filaments with optimal printability was addressed, leading to the development of two TPU/CNT/BDD composite electrodes with different CNT:BDD weight ratios (1:1 and 1:2), which were benchmarked against a TPU/CNT electrode.
