Background: Cationic derivatives of polyprenols (trimethylpolyprenylammonium iodides - PTAI) with variable chain length between 6 and 15 isoprene units prepared from naturally occurring poly-cis-prenols were tested as DNA vaccine carriers in chickens and mice. This study aimed to investigate if PTAI could be used as an efficient carrier of a DNA vaccine.
Methods: Several vaccine mixtures were prepared by combining different proportions of the vaccine plasmid (carrying cDNA encoding a vaccine antigen, hemagglutinin from H5N1 influenza virus) and various compositions of PTAI. The vaccines were delivered by intramuscular injection to either chickens or mice. The presence of specific antibodies in sera collected from the immunized animals was analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test.
Results: The mixtures of PTAI with helper lipids, such as DOPE (1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylethanolamine), DC-cholesterol [{3ß-[N-(N',N'-dimethylaminoethane)-carbamoyl] cholesterol} hydrochloride] or DOPC (1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylcholine) induced strong humoral response to the antigen encoded by the DNA vaccine plasmid.
Conclusion: The animal immunization results confirmed that PTAI compositions, especially mixtures of PTAI with DOPE and DC-cholesterol, do work as effective carriers of DNA vaccines, comparable to the commercially available lipid transfection reagent.

Antimicrobial drug resistance is a significant global health challenge, causing hundreds of thousands of deaths annually and severely impacting healthcare systems worldwide. Several reported antimicrobial compounds have a guanidine motif, as the positive charge on guanidine promotes cell lysis. Therefore, pyrrole- and indole-based allylidene hydrazine carboximidamide derivatives with guanidine motifs are proposed as antimicrobial agents that mimic cationic antimicrobial peptides (CAMPs).

Compared to aziridines, azaphosphiridines, which formally result from the replacement of a carbon atom by phosphorus, have been much less studied. In this work, accurate values for one of the most prominent properties, the ring strain energy (RSE), have been theoretically examined for a wide range of azaphosphiridine derivatives. Strongly related aspects of interest for developing the use of azaphosphiridines in heteroatom and polymer chemistry are ring opening reactions and polymerisations, the latter facilitated by their significantly high RSE.

Two-dimensional lead iodide perovskites have attracted significant attention for their potential applications in optoelectronic and photonic devices due to their tunable excitonic properties. The choice of organic spacer cations significantly influences the light emission and exciton transport properties of these materials, which are vital for their device performance. In this Perspective, we discuss the impact of spacer cations on lattice dynamics and exciton-phonon coupling, focusing on three representative 2D lead iodide perovskites that exhibit distinct types of structural distortions.

Fluorescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising sensing materials that have received much attention in recent years, in which the organic ligand conformation changes usually lead to variations of their sensing behavior. Based on this, in the present work, perylene diimide (PDI) derivatives with excellent photochemical properties closely related to their conformation and molecule packing fashion were selected as organic linkers to detect sarin simulant diethyl chlorophosphate (DCP). By the coordination interactions with large lanthanide cations through terminal carboxylate groups from the PDI derivative, a series of one-dimensional coordination polymers, named [Ln(PDICl-2COO)(μ-O)(DMF)] (SNNU-112, Ln = Yb/Tb/Sm/Nd/Pr/Gd/Eu/Er/Ce, PDICl-2COOH = ,'-bis(4-benzoic acid)-1,2,6,7-tetrachlorohydrazone-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid diimide) were synthesized.

Limestone mining waste and its derived CaO were checked as an adsorbents of pb, Cu, and Cd ions from water solution. The characterization of Limestone and calcined limestone was studied by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and Surface area measurements (BET). The optimum conditions of sorbent dosage, pH, initial concentration, and contact time factors were investigated for pristine limestone and calcined limestone absorbents.
