The study of ionic liquids that may be compatible with the type of radiation chemistry events occurring in nuclear separation processes is a topic of high current interest. In this article, we focus on two ionic liquids based on the benzylpyridinium cation. This cation has been proposed to be able to capture either an excess electron or hole without undergoing fast dissociation. Shkrob, Wishart, and collaborators ( J. Phys. Chem. B 2013 , 117 ( 46 ), 14385 - -14399 ) have indicated that the stabilization is likely in the form of dimers in solution with the excess electron localized on adjacent pyridinium rings and the excess hole localized on phenyl rings. Our first-principles dynamical studies support these ideas but present a more nuanced view of the time-dependent behavior that is likely to occur at short time for systems at room temperature.

Undesirable loss of open-circuit voltage and current of metal halide perovskite (MHP) solar cells are closely associated with defects, so theoretical calculations have been often performed to scrutinize the nature of defects in bulk of MHPs. Yet, exploring the properties of defects at surfaces of MHPs is severely lacking given the complexity of the surface defects with high concentrations. In this study, IPb (PbI) antisite defects, namely one Pb (I) site being occupied by one I (Pb) atom at the surfaces of the FAPbI3 (FA = CH(NH2)2) material, are found to create electron (hole) traps when the surfaces with IPb (PbI) antisite defects are negatively (positively) charged.

Between 1949 and 1962 the Soviet Union performed atmospheric tests of nuclear weapons at the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site (SNTS) in Kazakhstan, resulting in widespread contamination of the surrounding region with radioactive fallout. Settlements in the southeast Abai oblast of Kazakhstan, close to the border with China, are not thought to have received significant fallout from the SNTS. There is, however, evidence that the study area, including Makanchi, Urdzhar and Taskesken villages, was contaminated by atmospheric nuclear tests performed by China at the Lop Nor NTS between 1964 and 1980.

Introduction: Complement 3 glomerulopathy (C3G) and primary immune complex membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (IC-MPGN) have high risks for disease recurrence and allograft loss in transplant kidneys. Pegcetacoplan (targeted complement 3 [C3]/C3b inhibitor) may prevent excessive deposition of C3 and complement 5 [C5] breakdown products and associated renal damage.
