Aim: To develop a scientifically based system for treating elderly patient with prostate adenoma (AP), aimed at reducing the incidence and severity of complications and mortality after isolated and simultaneous operations.

Materials And Methods: Between 1995 and 2015, 1170 elderly and older patients with prostate adenoma (PA) underwent isolated adenomectomy (AE) or transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) or simultaneous operations (SO). Simultaneous interventions were performed in 335 (28.6%) patients.

Results: Immediate treatment results were significantly better in patients who underwent isolated TURP or TURP as a part of SO than that of those who had isolated AE or AE as a part of SO. SO was not associated with greater incidence of local or general postoperative complications and mortality compared with isolated AE or TURP.

Conclusion: Continuous advancements in diagnostic and treatment methods contributed to a significant reduction in the incidence of postoperative complications and deaths in geriatric patients with PA. The study findings confirm the superiority of TURP over AE, as previously reported by other authors.

Recurrent hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer mortality in women. Recurrence and resistance to targeted therapies have been difficult to study due to the long clinical course of the disease, the complex nature of resistance, and the lack of clinically relevant model systems. Existing models are limited to a few HR+ cell lines, organoid models, and patient-derived xenograft models, all lacking components of the human tumor microenvironment.

Background: Adipose-derived stem cell (ADSC) transplantation presents a promising approach for osteoporosis (OP) treatment. However, the therapeutic efficacy of ADSCs is hindered by low post-transplantation survival rates and limited capacities for adhesion, migration, and differentiation. Icariin (ICA), the primary active compound of Epimedium, has been shown to promote cell proliferation and induce osteogenic differentiation; however, its specific effects on ADSC osteogenesis and the mechanisms by which ICA enhances osteoporosis treatment through cell transplantation remain inadequately understood.

Auditory perception requires categorizing sound sequences, such as speech or music, into classes, such as syllables or notes. Auditory categorization depends not only on the acoustic waveform, but also on variability and uncertainty in how the listener perceives the sound - including sensory and stimulus uncertainty, the listener's estimated relevance of the particular sound to the task, and their ability to learn the past statistics of the acoustic environment. Whereas these factors have been studied in isolation, whether and how these factors interact to shape categorization remains unknown.

Aerobic and anaerobic organisms and their functions are spatially or temporally decoupled at scales ranging from individual cells to ecosystems and from minutes to hours. This is due to competition for energy substrates and/or biochemical incompatibility with oxygen (O). Here we report a chemolithotrophic Aquificales bacterium, Hydrogenobacter, isolated from a circumneutral hot spring in Yellowstone National Park (YNP) capable of simultaneous aerobic and anaerobic respiration when provided with hydrogen (H), elemental sulfur (S), and O.

Neurons in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus discharge synchronously in brain state-dependent manner to transfer information. Published studies have highlighted the temporal coordination of neuronal activities between the hippocampus and a neocortical area, however, how the spatial extent of neocortical activity relates to hippocampal activity remains partially unknown. We imaged mesoscopic neocortical activity while recording hippocampal local field potentials in anesthetized and unanesthetized GCaMP-expressing transgenic mice.
