Neutropenia in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a problem that often needs to be addressed. Side effects of basic antirheumatic treatment, infections or substrate deficiencies are common causes; however, T‑cell large granular lymphocytic (T-LGL) leukemia, a mature T‑cell neoplasm, can also lead to autoimmune cytopenia. The T‑LGL leukemia can be associated not only with RA but also with other autoimmune diseases or neoplasms.

Methotrexate (MTX), an antimetabolite targeting certain autoimmune conditions and various hematologic malignancies, has been associated with iatrogenic lymphoproliferative disease (LPD) primarily of B-cell lineage. Efficacy and safety of immunotherapy for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials.

Front Oncol

January 2025

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide and immune checkpoint inhibitors have shown favorable therapeutic effects in recurrent or metastatic or locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (R/M/LA HNSCC). However, the effects of immunotherapy in HNSCC are still inconsistent because of complicating factors. This meta-analysis tries to provide a more precise assessment of the efficacy and safety of this integrated approach in HNSCC.

Older patients represent a unique and vulnerable subgroup, requiring careful consideration when determining treatment options. Treatment-related leukoencephalopathy is commonly observed in older patients months to years after receiving radiotherapy and/or methotrexate for primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL). Tirabrutinib is an orally available, highly selective, and potent second-generation Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitor (BTKi) approved for treating recurrent/refractory PCNSL in Japan.

Introduction: Patients with psoriasis (PsO) and permanent spinal cord injuries (SCI) resulting in paraplegia and tetraplegia may experience a higher rate of infections compared to patients with PsO without SCI. It can result in further challenges for therapeutic management with immunosuppressants (biological and non-biological treatments). Thus,  we aimed to evaluate the rate of infections in patients with PsO and SCI treated with systemic immunosuppressants.
