(De Man, 1911), a translucent freshwater prawn has a wide distribution range throughout mainland Southeast Asia. A high morphological variation and genetic divergence between different geographical populations in Thailand have peculiarly extended the uncertainty of species boundaries and blended confusingly with several species. To clarify these circumstances, broad sample examinations of the morphological variation, including topotype specimens, and phylogenetic reconstruction based on the concatenated mitochondrial dataset (16s rRNA and COI genes) were performed.

Hierarchical Organization Within the Ventral Premotor Cortex of the Macaque Monkey.

Neuroscience

Department of Physiology, Hirosaki University School of Medicine, Hirosaki 036-8562, Japan. Electronic address:

Recent studies have revealed that the ventral premotor cortex (PMv) of nonhuman primates plays a pivotal role in various behaviors that require the transformation of sensory cues to appropriate actions. Examples include decision-making based on various sensory cues, preparation for upcoming motor behavior, adaptive sensorimotor transformation, and the generation of motor commands using rapid sensory feedback. Although the PMv has frequently been regarded as a single entity, it can be divided into at least five functionally distinct regions: F4, a dorsal convexity region immediately rostral to the primary motor cortex (M1); F5p, a cortical region immediately rostral to F4, lying within the arcuate sulcus; F5c, a ventral convexity region rostral to F4; and F5a, located in the caudal bank of the arcuate sulcus inferior limb lateral to F5p.

Functional relationship between brainstem putative pain-facilitating neurons and spinal nociceptfive neurons during development of inflammation in rats.

Electronic address:

The so-called on- and off-cells of the rostral ventromedial medulla (RVM) send their axons to the spinal dorsal horn. Activation of on-cells precedes and coincides with a facilitation, and activation of off-cells coincides with an inhibition, of withdrawal reflexes elicited by noxious agents. Considerable evidence supports the notion that on- and off-cells modulate nocifensive reflexes during opioid and non-opioid action and also during normal circumstances and during peripheral neuropathy and inflammation.

The subventricular zone continues to generate corpus callosum and rostral migratory stream astroglia in normal adult mice.

Astrocytes are the most abundant cells in the CNS, and have many essential functions, including maintenance of blood-brain barrier integrity, and CNS water, ion, and glutamate homeostasis. Mammalian astrogliogenesis has generally been considered to be completed soon after birth, and to be reactivated in later life only under pathological circumstances. Here, by using genetic fate-mapping, we demonstrate that new corpus callosum astrocytes are continuously generated from nestin(+) subventricular zone (SVZ) neural progenitor cells (NPCs) in normal adult mice.
