Deep joint learning diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease based on multimodal feature fusion.

BioData Min

November 2024

School of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Changzhou University, Changzhou, 213164, China.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an advanced and incurable neurodegenerative disease. Genetic variations are intrinsic etiological factors contributing to the abnormal expression of brain function and structure in AD patients. A new multimodal feature fusion called "magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-p value" was proposed to construct 3D fusion images by introducing genes as a priori knowledge.

Arabidopsis Fhit-like tumor suppressor resumes early terminated constitutive triple response1-10 mRNA translation.

June 2024

National Key Laboratory of Plant Molecular Genetics, CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences, Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai 200032, China.

The Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) constitutive triple response1-10 (ctr1-10) mutant produces a reduced level of CTR1 protein and exhibits a weak ctr1 mutant phenotype. Sequence analysis revealed highly active translation of the upstream open reading frame (uORF) at the extended 5'-UTR of the ctr1-10 mRNA, resulting from T-DNA insertion. Enhancer screening for ctr1-10 isolated the fragile histidine triad-1 (fhit-1) mutation.

Genome-wide exploration of genetic interactions for bladder cancer risk.

Int J Cancer

January 2024

Department of Epidemiology, CAPHRI Care and Public Health Research Institute, School of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism, Maastricht University, Maastricht, the Netherlands.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined genetic interactions influencing bladder cancer (BC) risk using data from the UK Biobank, including over 4,000 Caucasian and non-Caucasian participants.
  • Researchers employed a machine learning approach to explore SNP-SNP interactions, identifying 10 significant pairs of SNPs related to BC risk, with some showing both positive and negative associations.
  • An integrated interaction-empowered polygenic risk score (iPRS) was developed, demonstrating a higher predictive capability for identifying high-risk individuals compared to traditional polygenic risk scores.

The etiology of sex differences in the risk of asthma-COPD phenotype and COPD is still not completely understood. Genetic and environmental risk factors are commonly believed to play an important role. This study aims to identify sex-specific genetic markers associated with asthma-COPD phenotype and COPD using the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) Baseline Comprehensive and Genomic data.

In previous studies, we have identified the tumor suppressor proteins Fhit (fragile histidine triad) and Nit1 (Nitrilase1) as interaction partners of β-catenin both acting as repressors of the canonical Wnt pathway. Interestingly, in and these proteins are expressed as NitFhit fusion proteins. According to the Rosetta Stone hypothesis, if proteins are expressed as fusion proteins in one organism and as single proteins in others, the latter should interact physically and show common signaling function.
