Objective: To evaluate the double-stimulation protocol efficacy over conventional ovarian stimulation in recovering a more adequate number of oocytes and increase the number of embryos to be transferred or to be genetically analyzed.
Methods: A retrospective and comparative study with 13 patients who underwent unsuccessful in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles with a conventional antagonist ovarian stimulation protocol and repeat the attempt with a double stimulation protocol. The following variables were analyzed: number of oocytes collected, mature oocytes collected, fertilization rate, blastocyst rate, biopsied blastocyst rate and euploidy rate.
Results: The double stimulation protocol had a significant higher number of oocytes collected (p=0.007) and mature oocytes to be injected (p=0.01). There was no statistically significant difference in fertilization (p=0.78) and blastocyst (p=0.59) rates.
Conclusion: Double stimulation favors patients who are at risk of incurring several attempts of IVF to achieve pregnancy.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a predictive model for the risk of no usable blastocyst formation in patients with normal ovarian reserve undergoing IVF.
Methods: The model was derived from 7,901 patients who underwent their first oocyte retrieval and subsequent blastocyst culture, of which 446 cases have no usable blastocysts formed. Univariate regression analyses, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis were used to identify the association of patient and cycle characteristics with the presence of no available blastocyst and to create a nomogram.

Human recombination maps are a valuable resource for association and linkage studies and crucial for many inferences of population history and natural selection. Existing maps are based solely on cross-over (CO) recombination, omitting non-cross-overs (NCOs)-the more common form of recombination-owing to the difficulty in detecting them. Using whole-genome sequence data in families, we estimate the number of NCOs transmitted from parent to offspring and derive complete, sex-specific recombination maps including both NCOs and COs.

Follicular fluid extracellular vesicles are beneficial for in vitro oocyte maturation and development; however, their effect on the expression profiles of oocyte microRNAs (miRNAs) and the roles of related miRNAs are unknown. In this study, we aimed to investigate miRNA expression in mature oocytes cultured in follicular fluid extracellular vesicles and the effect of miRNA-125a (miR-125a) on oocyte maturation. The expression profiles of the miRNAs were determined by microRNA sequencing, followed by target gene prediction analysis.

An increasing number of patients utilizing in vitro fertilization (IVF) and assisted reproductive technology (ART) are characterized as impaired or poor ovarian responders (PORs). Owing to its unclear molecular etiology, the management of patients with age-related ovarian characteristics remains a controversial and complex clinical concern. Therefore, it is important to identify and understand the etiological causes behind POR to develop more effective and efficient management strategies for these patients.

Melatonin is mainly synthesized and secreted by pineal gland, and plays multiple functions, including its regulating effects on reproductive processes. Sperm capacitation is necessary for fertilization, but the effect of melatonin on mouse sperm capacitation remains to be elucidated. We thus investigated the roles of melatonin on capacitation by culturing the sperms from mouse cauda epididymis in the medium with different doses of melatonin.
