In three studies (total N = 622), the effects of threat to control on subsequent moral judgement were examined. After recalling a lack-of-control experience, participants evaluated the morality of a protagonist's decisions in a series of incongruent moral dilemmas. We found that a control-threatening reminder made moral judgements more utilitarian on the deontological-utilitarian dimension, which is consistent with the control motivation theory.

Objectives: The overall goal of this article is to show that denial is one of the greatest obstacles to good practical judgment and is therefore a major problem in clinical ethics by examining its cognitive structure and the challenges it poses for clinical ethics consultation and intervention. In addition to clinical examples, excerpts of verbatim from citizen forums on triage protocols will be used to illustrate the manifestations of denial in citizens when faced with difficult choices.

Children's moral self-concept relates to moral judgment, but not to arousal.

We investigated the relationships among the moral self-concept, arousal reactions to third-party moral situations, and moral judgment in 5- to 7-year-old children (N = 59). Children's moral self-concept was assessed using a puppet task. In addition, children were shown audiovisual scenes depicting prosocial, antisocial, and neutral interactions between children.
