Schwannomas are tumors that originate from the glial cells of the nervous system and can occur on myelinated nerve fibers throughout the body, especially in the craniofacial region. However, pancreatic schwannomas are extremely rare. We report a case of a pancreatic schwannoma that was difficult to differentiate from other pancreatic tumors preoperatively.

Unlabelled: Human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (UC-MSCs), which can be prepared in advance and are presumed to be advantageous for nerve regeneration, have potential as a cell source for Bio 3D conduits. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nerve regeneration ability of Bio 3D conduits made from UC-MSCs using a rat sciatic nerve defect model.

Methods: A Bio 3D conduit was fabricated using a Bio 3D printer by placing UC-MSC spheroids into thin needles according to predesigned 3D data.

A 49-year-old female was admitted to our hospital due to acute-onset dysarthria and unstable gait. Brain MR diffusion weighted imaging revealed high signal intensities in the midbrain. Brain tumors, abscess and demyelinating lesions was suspected firstly as etiology of the lesion and antibiotics and antiviral drug were started under consulting with the neurosurgeon about brain biopsy.

Article Synopsis
  • * A 32-year-old woman experienced sudden vision loss in her right eye and was found to have extensive myelinated retinal nerve fibers and a retinal detachment, leading to a complex surgical procedure.
  • * The surgery successfully closed the macular hole and reattached the retina, showcasing the effectiveness of the PFCL-assisted inverted ILM flap technique for difficult cases of MHRD, while also raising questions about potential damage to the nerve fibers from the detachment or treatment.

Rationale: Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-related disease is a relatively recent entity in inflammatory demyelinating disease. Its clinical presentation varies in severity and the lack of specific imaging features makes it easy to misdiagnose. We now report the case of a MOG antibody-positive patient who presented with diplopia and dizziness, and whose brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed abnormal signals in the bilateral pontine brachium.
