The combination of an in situ formed MnL complex (HL = Hacac or R(C═O)CHCOR) and a chiral phosphoric acid HX* allows for a fully catalytic, asymmetric synthesis of 4H-chromenes starting from 2-alkyl-substituted phenols. The aerobic oxidation toward a transient ortho-quinone methide was efficiently catalyzed by a manganese(III) species MnL while the ensuing Michael addition of β-dicarbonyl compounds proved to be catalyzed by a chiral manganese phosphate MnLX*.

An efficient Pd-catalyzed regioselective intramolecular aerobic oxidative dehydrocoupling of BH/CH between -carborane and arenes has been achieved with the construction of a series of five-, six- and seven-membered rings under mild reaction conditions. Control experiments indicate that B-H activation proceeds preferentially over the aryl C-H. These new polyarene-carborane conjugates have potential applications in materials as demonstrated by pyrene fused -carborane that exhibits unique dual-phase emission, intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), and aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties.

Stroke remains a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, and electroacupuncture has a long history of use in stroke treatment. This meta-analysis and systematic review aimed to evaluate the efficacy of electroacupuncture and explore its potential mechanisms in animal models of ischemic stroke. The PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, CENTRAL, and CINAHL databases were comprehensively searched up to May 1, 2024.

Aging is a multifaceted biological process characterized by a progressive decline in physiological functions and heightened vulnerability to diseases, shaped by genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Among these, cold exposure has garnered interest for its potential anti-aging benefits. This review examines the impact of cold exposure on aging, focusing on key physiological processes such as inflammation, oxidative stress, metabolic regulation, and cardiovascular health.

The objective of this work was to investigate the effect of synthetic thiol-modified hyaluronic acid (HASH) on the gelation properties of ginkgo seed protein isolate (GSPI) under non-oxidizing (NOX) or oxidizing (OX) conditions. Under NOX conditions, HASH mediated the disruption of disulfide bonds, leading to a dose-dependent dissociation of GSPI. Conversely, in OX conditions, hydroxyl radical-induced oxidation facilitated the formation of interprotein disulfide bonds.

Background: Impaired fat oxidation is linked to cardiometabolic risk. Maximal fat oxidation rate (MFO) reflects metabolic flexibility and is influenced by lean mass, muscle strength, muscle quality - defined as the ratio of strength to mass - and cardiorespiratory fitness. The relationship between these factors and fat oxidation is not fully understood.
