Osteosarcomas are especially rare in the mandible and maxilla, representing 1.6% of all bony malignant tumours. In this article, we described a case of osteosarcoma of the mandible. Computed tomography (CT) image showed a well-circumscribed homogeneous mass, with nonhomogeneous contrast enhancement. T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MR) image showed intermediate signal intensity on, and after administration the lesion showed signal intensity lower than muscle. T2-weighted MR image showed heterogeneous high signal intensity. Bone scintigraphy revealed monostatic involvement of the mandible with a homogenous intense uptake pattern. Ga-67 citrate scintigraphy revealed significantly increased uptake. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of osteosarcoma.

Imaging characteristics and treatment of recurrent germinoma.

J Neurosurg

January 2025

1Department of Neurosurgery, Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Hiroshima University, Hiroshima; and.

Objective: An MRI protocol for germinoma surveillance after complete remission has not been established. Moreover, the standard treatment for recurrent or refractory germinoma has not been determined. In this study, the authors explored the imaging characteristics of recurrent germinoma and discuss their institution's experience with multidisciplinary treatment of this malignancy.

Three endophytic strains, Phomopsis sp., Fusarium proliferatum, and Tinctoporellus epimiltinus, isolated from various plants in the rainforest of the Philippines, were investigated regarding their ability to repress growth of the pathogenic fungus Colletotrichum musae on banana fruits causing anthracnose disease. An in vitro plate-to-plate assay and an in vivo sealed box assay were conducted, using commercial versus natural potato dextrose medium (PDA).

Appraisal models, such as the Scherer's Component Process Model (CPM), represent an elegant framework for the interpretation of emotion processes, advocating for computational models that capture emotion dynamics. Today's emotion recognition research, however, typically classifies discrete qualities or categorised dimensions, neglecting the dynamic nature of emotional processes and thus limiting interpretability based on appraisal theory. In our research, we estimate emotion intensity from multiple physiological features associated to the CPM's neurophysiological component using dynamical models with the aim of bringing insights into the relationship between physiological dynamics and perceived emotion intensity.

SERS Detection of Hydrophobic Molecules: Thio-β-Cyclodextrin-Driven Rapid Self-Assembly of Uniform Silver Nanoparticle Monolayers and Analyte Trapping.

High-sensitivity and repeatable detection of hydrophobic molecules through the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique is a tough challenge because of their weak adsorption and non-uniform distribution on SERS substrates. In this research, we present a simple self-assembly protocol for monolayer SERS mediated by 6-deoxy-6-thio-β-cyclodextrin (β-CD-SH). This protocol allows for the rapid assembly of a compact silver nanoparticle (Ag NP) monolayer at the oil/water interface within 40 s, while entrapping analyte molecules within hotspots.

Charcot first described ALS in 1869, but the specific mechanisms that mediate the disease pathology are still not clear. Intense research efforts have provided insight into unique neuroanatomical regions, specific neuronal populations and genetic associations for ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases; however, the experimental results also suggest a convergence of these events to common toxic pathways. We propose that common toxic pathways can be therapeutically targeted, and this intervention will be effective in slowing progression and improving patient quality of life.
