Sodium thiosulphate (NaSO) films were synthesized on carbon steel substrates through solution deposition, and a film formation growth mechanism is delineated in detail herein. Dislocation-driven film formation took place at the lower concentration of NaSO (0.1 M) studied, where screw dislocation loops were identified. Interestingly, we observed the co-existence of screw dislocation spiral loops and hierarchically-ordered molecular assembly in the film, and showed the importance of hierarchical morphology in the origin of screw dislocation. The screw dislocation loops were, however, distorted at the higher studied concentration of NaSO (0.5 M), and no hierarchical structures were formed. The mechanisms of film formation are discussed in detail and provide new insights into our understanding regarding morphology of the hierarchical molecular assembly, screw dislocation loop formation, and the role of chemical elements for their development. The main crystalline and amorphous phases in the surface films were identified as pyrite/mackinawite and magnetite. As sodium thiosulphate is widely used for energy, corrosion inhibition, nanoparticle synthesis and catalysis applications, the knowledge generated in this study is applicable to the fields of corrosion, materials science, materials chemistry and metallurgy.

(1) Background: The incidence of fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP) has increased significantly over the past decades. Unilateral non-displaced fractures, defined as FFP II, are the most common type of fracture. When conservative treatment fails, surgical treatment is indicated.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of modified single patellar tunnel medial patella femoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction in the treatment of recurrent patellar dislocation.

Methods: Between January 2023 and June 2023, a total of 61 patients with recurrent patellar dislocation who underwent MPFL reconstruction with autologous semitendinosus were enrolled and divided into 2 groups using random number table method. In the patellar anchor group, 31 patients were treated with MPFL reconstruction with double medial patellar anchors, and 30 patients in the patellar tunnel group were treated with MPFL reconstruction with single patellar tunnel.

Background: Pediatric femoral neck fractures (PFNF) are rare but associated with a high rate of serious complications such as avascular femoral head necrosis (AVN). Major risk factors and prognostic tools for an AVN are still unclear. As AVN is a devastating complication, this study aims to evaluate the predictors for AVN following a PFNF.

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Balgrist University Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, University of Zurich, Forchstrasse 340, 8008, Zurich, Switzerland.

Objectives: To evaluate CT imaging findings in symptomatic patients with and without revision surgery (RS) after reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA).

Materials And Methods: In this retrospective study, two radiologists assessed CT imaging findings in symptomatic patients with RSA over 5 years, including material fracture and loosening of the peg, baseplate, screws, and humeral stem, screw positioning, prosthesis dislocation, glenoid notching, fractures, and deltoid muscle quality. The primary outcome parameter was RS.
