Despite the relevant regulatory role that nuclear deformation plays in cell behaviour, a thorough understanding of how fluid flow modulates the deformation of the cell nucleus in non-confined environments is lacking. In this work, we investigated the dynamics of cell deformation under different creeping flows as a general simulation tool for predicting nuclear stresses and strains. Using this solid-fluid modelling interaction framework, we assessed the stress and strain levels that the cell nucleus experiences as a function of different microenvironmental conditions, such as physical constraints, fluid flows, cytosol properties, and nucleus properties and size. Therefore, the simulation methodology proposed here allows the design of deformability-based experiments involving fluid flow, such as real-time deformability cytometry and dynamic cell culture in bioreactors or microfluidic devices.

The present study aimed to unveil the gastroprotective potential of Vaccinium macrocarpon (VM) extract and its mechanism of action against indomethacin (INDO)-induced gastric ulcers in rats. To achieve this goal, rats were pretreated with either omeprazole (20 mg/kg) or VM (100 mg/kg) orally for 14 consecutive days. Gastric tissue samples were collected and various parameters were evaluated to understand the mechanism of VM's action, including the levels of superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde, glutathione, CAT and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), as well as the mRNA expression levels of tumour necrosis factor alpha, interleukin 1 beta, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and inhibitor kappa B (IκB).

The present work aimed to examine the primary mechanisms of liver damage, namely the impact of gut-derived endotoxins along the gut-liver axis and adipose-derived free fatty acids along the adipose-liver axis. These processes are known to play a significant role in the development of hepatic inflammation and steatosis. Although possible overlapping in the pathogenesis was expected, these processes have unique pathophysiological consequences.

ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling protein ATRX is an essential regulator involved in maintenance of DNA structure and chromatin state and regulation of gene expression during development. ATRX was originally identified as the monogenic cause of X-linked α-thalassemia mental retardation (ATR-X) syndrome. Affected individuals display a variety of developmental abnormalities and skeletal deformities.

CdS/ZnS heterostructures with tunable band gaps are promising photocatalysts for solar- or visible-light-driven H production through water splitting. To predict how the bandgap changes with the heterostructure composition, density functional theory calculations with meta-GGA correction are performed. It is found that the band gaps of CdS and ZnS are reduced by up to 14.

As the catalytic subunit of the Elongator complex, Elongator protein 3 (Elp3) plays a crucial role in multiple physiological processes, including growth, development and immune responses. Previous studies on Elp3 have focused on Caenorhabditis elegans, Drosophila melanogaster, Homo sapiens (human) or Mus musculus (mouse), whereas there are few reports on Elp3 in agricultural pests. Here, the role of TcElp3 in reproduction in the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum, was investigated, and the underlying mechanisms were explored.
