Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma (PPGL) are rare chromaffin-cell tumors producing adrenaline and/or noradrenaline, or solely dopamine. A 52-year-old man presenting with hypertension (141/79 mm Hg) and weight loss (10 kg in 6 months) was admitted to our hospital. Computed tomography revealed a massive right adrenal mass (150 mm) with partial necrosis, accompanied by multiple liver nodules.

The fundamental biological characteristics of tumor cells are characterized by irregularities in signaling and metabolic pathways, which are evident through increased glucose uptake, altered mitochondrial function, and the ability to evade growth signals. Interventions such as fasting or fasting-mimicking diets represent a promising strategy that can elicit distinct responses in normal cells compared to tumor cells. These dietary strategies can alter the circulating levels of various hormones and metabolites, including blood glucose, insulin, glucagon, growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor, glucocorticoids, and epinephrine, thereby potentially exerting an anticancer effect.

The objective of this investigation was to assess the impact of elevated catecholamine concentrations, induced through cold-water hand immersion, on the oxygen consumption (V̇O) kinetics during intense exercise, and to contrast this effect with that of the priming effect. Ten active participants underwent three 8-minute constant work rate exercises (CWR) at ∆25%, with one CWR preceded by hand cooling (2 min at 0 °C, HC) and two consecutive CWR to induced priming effect on the second bout (SB). Pulmonary gas exchange and blood samples were analyzed to measure levels of epinephrine (E) and norepinephrine (NE).

Background: Phaeochromocytoma multisystem crisis (PMC) is characterized by labile blood pressures (extremes of hypo- and/or hypertension) and multiorgan failure as a result of catecholamine excess. Initial stabilization requires pharmacological and/or mechanical circulatory support, followed by the institution of antihypertensives to correct the underlying pathophysiology.
Case Summary: A previously well 40-year-old male developed a sudden onset of breathlessness.

Background: Hemoglobin‑oxygen (Hb-O) affinity is an important determinant for oxygen delivery and oxygen extraction. Although cardiovascular agents such as noradrenaline, adrenaline, atropine, milrinone and levosimendan are widely used in intensive care units worldwide, nothing is known about their possible effects on Hb-O affinity.
Methods: In this experimental ex-vivo trial, venous blood samples were taken from 5 male and 6 female volunteers and incubated with the particular cardiovascular agents.
