Dense Paraphrasing for multimodal dialogue interpretation.

Front Artif Intell

December 2024

Computer Science Department, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA, United States.

Multimodal dialogue involving multiple participants presents complex computational challenges, primarily due to the rich interplay of diverse communicative modalities including speech, gesture, action, and gaze. It argues that "translation" is not something that just "occurs"' to a text which is already completed, but an ongoing process that carries forward and explores different layers of meaning. The author tries to show that Freud saw himself as a "translator" and that "translation" reaches at the very core of the psychoanalytical endeavour.

Effective screening for communicative ability in dementia is vital to drive theoretical understanding and optimize care responsiveness globally. Communication is central to the human experience; however, routine clinical screening for progressive communication change remains limited due to a variety of resource constraints. Other challenges include the subtlety of early communication-led symptoms, heterogeneous underlying pathologies, and a lack of culturally diverse research and tools.

A model synthesizing average frequency components from select sentences in an electromagnetic articulography database has been crafted. This revealed the dual roles of the tongue: its dorsum acts like a carrier wave, and the tip acts as a modulation signal within the articulatory realm. This model illuminates anticipatory coarticulation's subtleties during speech planning.
