Introduction: Carotid artery stenting (CAS) is a promising alternative to surgery in high-risk patients. However, the impact of stent cell design on outcomes in CAS is a matter of continued debate.

Aim: To compare the periprocedural and clinical outcomes of different stent designs for CAS with distal protection devices.

Material And Methods: All CAS procedures with both closed- and hybrid-cell stents performed at our institution between February 2010 and December 2015 were analyzed retrospectively. Adverse events were defined as death, major stroke, minor stroke, transient ischemic attack and myocardial infarction. Periprocedural and 30-day adverse events and internal carotid artery (ICA) vasospasm rates were compared between the closed-cell and hybrid-cell stent groups.

Results: The study included 234 patients comprising 146 patients with a closed-cell stent (Xact stent, Abbott Vascular) (mean age: 68.5 ±8.6; 67.1% male) and 88 patients with a hybrid-cell stent (Cristallo Ideale, Medtronic) (mean age: 67.2 ±12.8; 68.2% male). There was no significant difference between the groups with respect to periprocedural or 30-day adverse event rates. While there was no difference in terms of tortuosity index between the groups, there was a higher procedural ICA vasospasm rate in the closed-cell stent group (35 patients, 23%) compared with the hybrid-cell stent group (10 patients, 11%) ( = 0.017).

Conclusions: The results of this study showed no significant difference in the clinical adverse event rates after CAS between the closed-cell stent group and the hybrid-cell stent group. However, procedural ICA vasospasm was more common in the closed-cell stent group.

Objective: Postoperative gastrointestinal hemorrhage (GIH) following mesenteric revascularization when performed either openly (OR) or endovascularly (ER) has been clinically observed but not reported. The aim of the study is to assess the incidence and predictors of GIH in patients undergoing mesenteric revascularization.

Methods: This was a single-center retrospective review of consecutive patients treated with open or endovascular mesenteric revascularization from 2009 to 2019.

Nanotechnology in development of next generation of stent and related medical devices: Current and future aspects.

Coronary stents have saved millions of lives in the last three decades by treating atherosclerosis especially, by preventing plaque protrusion and subsequent aneurysms. They attenuate the vascular SMC proliferation and promote reconstruction of the endothelial bed to ensure superior revascularization. With the evolution of modern stent types, nanotechnology has become an integral part of stent technology.

Background: The hybrid aortic repair consisting of root replacement and endovascular arch repair is an optimal alternative for patients unfit for circulatory arrest. However, an artificial aortic valve prosthesis might impede the endovascular procedure. This study aims to present our experience with the branching retrograde externalized guidewire (BREG) technique in such situations, and discuss its utility and efficiency.

Haemodynamic changes in visceral hybrid repairs of type III and type V thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms.

The visceral hybrid procedure combining retrograde visceral bypass grafting and completion endovascular stent grafting is a feasible alternative to conventional open surgical or wholly endovascular repairs of thoracoabdominal aneurysms (TAAA). However, the wide variability in visceral hybrid configurations means that a priori prediction of surgical outcome based on haemodynamic flow profiles such as velocity pattern and wall shear stress post repair remain challenging. We sought to appraise the clinical relevance of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses in the setting of visceral hybrid TAAA repairs.

Cervical atresia is a rare congenital Müllerian duct anomaly that manifests as the absence or deformed nonfunctional presence of the cervix. Herein, a multi-layered biodegradable stent is fabricated using a homogeneous blend of silk fibroin with polycaprolactone using hexafluoroisopropanol as a common solution. Briefly, a concentric cylinder of 3D honeycomb layer is sandwiched within electrospun sheets for fixing at the cervico-uterine junction to pave the way of cervical reconstruction.
