The affinities of 20 hydrocarbons for the cavity formed by the inner wall of cucurbit[8]uril and a tolyl unit linked to an auxiliary guest were measured in aqueous solution. Cucurbit[8]uril and the auxiliary guest, a substituted ruthenium tris(2,2'-bipyridyl) complex bearing a trifluoromethyl F NMR probe, displayed perfect selectivity toward cyclic hydrocarbons, and cis- and trans-decalin, in particular. Unlike π-π interactions, CH-π interactions, as well as differences in hydrocarbon solvation, contribute significantly to the recognition process.

Hi-C sequencing is a DNA-based next-generation sequencing method that preserves the 3D genome conformation and has shown promise in detecting genomic rearrangements in translational research studies. To evaluate Hi-C as a potential clinical diagnostic platform, analytical concordance with routine laboratory testing was assessed using primary pediatric leukemia and sarcoma specimens. Archived viable and non-viable frozen leukemic cells and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumor specimens were analyzed.

Developing a convenient method to efficiently determine the size of nanoplastics in the environment is urgent in terms of ecological or human health protection. In this work, a novel strategy for discriminating the size of polystyrene (PS)-based nanoplastics was reported via regulating the radiative transition efficiency of NH-UIO-66 (NU) with benzoic acid (BA) as the auxiliary ligand. The elaborately doped BA capped the defect sites and triggered nonradiative transition efficiency of NU.

Liver injury significantly affects a patient's health and quality of life. However, timely and convenient diagnosis of this disease via whole blood detection remains challenging due to the lack of user-friendly and fast readout blood test methods. Herein, we developed such a method for the swift auxiliary diagnosis of liver injury via whole blood detection using a customed point-of-care testing (POCT) system consisting of a biothiols-activatable chemiluminescent probe and a hand-held POCT device.
