In this study, the preparation and electrochemical application of a chromium(III) oxide modified carbon paste electrode (Cr-CPE) and a screen printed electrode (SPE), made from the same material and optimized for the simple, cheap and sensitive simultaneous determination of zinc, cadmium, lead, copper and the detection of silver ions, is described. The limits of detection and quantification were 25 and 80 µg·L for Zn(II), 3 and 10 µg·L for Cd(II), 3 and 10 µg·L for Pb(II), 3 and 10 µg·L for Cu(II), and 3 and 10 µg·L for Ag(I), respectively. Furthermore, this promising modification was transferred to the screen-printed electrode. The limits of detection for the simultaneous determination of zinc, cadmium, copper and lead on the screen printed electrodes were found to be 350 µg·L for Zn(II), 25 µg·L for Cd(II), 3 µg·L for Pb(II) and 3 µg·L for Cu(II). Practical usability for the simultaneous detection of these heavy metal ions by the Cr-CPE was also demonstrated in the analyses of wastewaters.

Crystal Violet (CV) is a vibrant and harmful dye known for its toxicity to aquatic life and potential carcinogenic effects on humans. This study explores the removal of CV through photocatalysis driven by visible light, as well as examining the antibacterial and antibiofilm characteristics of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) synthesized from the aerial roots of Ficus benghalensis. Various characterization techniques were employed to confirm the optical properties, crystal lattices, and morphology of ZnO NPs.

Introduction: This study aimed to understand the origin and to explain the maintenance of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) isolated from food-producing animals in a third-generation cephalosporin (3GC)-free farm.

Methods: Culture and molecular approaches were used to test molecules other than 3GC such as antibiotics (tetracycline and oxytetracycline), antiparasitics (ivermectin, flumethrin, fenbendazol, and amitraz), heavy metal [arsenic, HNO, aluminum, HNO, cadmium (CdSO), zinc (ZnCl), copper (CuSO), iron (FeCl), and aluminum (AlSO)], and antioxidant (butylated hydroxytoluene) as sources of selective pressure. Whole-genome sequencing using short read (Illumina™) and long read (Nanopore™) technologies was performed on 34 genomes.

Soluble starch/zinc oxide nanocomposites could be promising candidates for eco-friendly antimicrobial, food packaging, and a wide range of other utilization. In order to find a new way for the preparation of this kind of nanocomposites, an efficient and energy-saving reaction for the synthesis of soluble starch/zinc oxide nanocomposites has been investigated. The reaction was implemented in a solid state at room temperature without post-reaction calcination.

Background: Conflicting findings exist regarding the association between maternal serum zinc and neonatal birth weight. This study aimed to explore the association between maternal serum zinc and birth weight, and whether this association was modified by neonatal SOD2 polymorphism and promoter methylation.

Methods: We recruited 464 mother-newborn pairs at Houzhai Center Hospital from January 2010 to January 2012.
