Haematology Laboratory, Amiri Hospital, Kuwait City, Kuwait.

Published: July 2017

Ofatumumab Arzerra is a human monoclonal antibody, which induces killing of a panel of tumor B-cell lines and primary tumor cells by the activation of in vitro complement-dependent cytotoxicity and antibody-dependent, cell-mediated cytotoxicity. The humanized anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia patients. This article summarizes this antibody's therapeutic effect on chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Regulatory T Cells for Stroke Recovery: A Promising Immune Therapeutic Strategy.

CNS Neurosci Ther

January 2025

Department of Research, Beijing Rehabilitation Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

Background: Stroke remains a leading cause of mortality and disability among adults. Given the restricted therapeutic window for intravascular interventions and neuroprotection during the acute phase, there has been a growing focus on tissue repair and functional recovery in the subacute and chronic phases after stroke. The pro-inflammatory microglial polarization occurs in subacute and chronic phases after stroke and may represent therapeutic targets for stroke recovery.

Structural and functional brain correlates of the neutrophil- and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio in neuropsychiatric disorders.

Brain Behav Immun Health

Department of Psychology, University of Miami, 5665 Ponce de Leon Blvd, Coral Gables, FL, 33146, USA.

Skews in the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) increasingly demonstrate prognostic capability in a range of acute and chronic mental health conditions. There has been a recent uptick in structural and functional magnetic responance imaging data corroborating the role of NLR and MLR in a cluster of neuropsychiatric disorders that are characterized by cognitive, affective, and psychomotor dysfunction. Moreover, these deficits are mostly evident in setting of acute and chronic disease comorbidity implicating aging and immunosenescent processes in the manifestation of these geriatric syndromes.

Introduction: Bryostatin-1, a potent agonist of the protein kinase C, has been studied for HIV and cancer therapies. In HIV research, it has shown anti-HIV effects during acute infection and reactivation of latent HIV in chronic infection. As effective CD8+ T cell responses are essential for eliminating reactivated virus and achieving a cure, it is important to investigate how bryostatin-1 affects HIV-specific CD8+ T cells.

Indolent lymphoma: addressing the needs of survivors.

Leuk Lymphoma

January 2025

School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health, Lymphoma Research Group, Monash University, Clayton, Australia.

Over the past two decades, there has been a continuous improvement in outcome for patients with indolent lymphoma (iNHL) resulting in a gradual accumulation of survivors. While life expectancy in the current era approaches that of the lymphoma-free population, patients continue to experience lifelong complications of the disease and its treatment affecting general health, emotional, psychological and social wellbeing, relationships, employment, finances, and fitness. Contemporary care models while suited to the management of lymphoma are often lacking when it comes to identification and management of these additional needs.
