The deeper understanding of retinal detachment (RD) pathogenesis may improve the visual outcome after surgery. Given the main role of the vitreous in retinal eye diseases, two strategies were explored to identify its proteome in RD. Fractionation techniques such as anion exchange chromatography (IEX) and SDS-PAGE combined with MALDI-TOF/TOF analysis allowed to identify 127 proteins in vitreous of RD patients. From these proteins, 19 were identified using only the IEX fractionation strategy, and 117 using a bidimensional (IEX and SDS-PAGE) fractionation. Of these proteins, 68 had not yet been found in other vitreous proteomic studies. The fractionation with IEX and SDS-PAGE largely improved the number of identified proteins proving that it is crucial to combine several methodologies to cover vitreous proteome.

African trypanosomiasis is an infectious disease caused by hemoparasites of the genus Trypanosoma and remains a major health problem in Africa - killing around 4000 people and animals worth an estimated $5 billion, annually. The absence of a vaccine and satisfactory drug against African trypanosomiasis (AT) necessitates the continued search for new chemotherapy options. Owing to the rich biochemical diversity in snake venom, it has recently become a source of therapeutic peptides that are being explored for the development of novel drug candidates for diverse ailments such as cancers and infectious diseases.

Recombinant simian IL-15 (siIL-15) was obtained for the preclinical assessment of an anti-human IL-15 vaccine. For this purpose, the cDNA from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of a Macaca fascicularis monkey was cloned into a pIL-2 vector.
