The excavation of the super-large cross-section tunnel portal section is prone to causing serious engineering distresses. The key factors to ensure the safe construction of portal section are to clarify the construction mechanic characteristics and select a reasonable construction scheme. In this paper, a bidirectional six-lane expressway tunnel in Southwest China was selected as an engineering case.

Backgrounds: Establishment of quantitative, objective evaluation tool for facial palsy has been a big issue for clinicians and researchers, and in an era of artificial intelligence, AI-driven video analysis can be considered a reasonable solution for this long-discussed issue. We introduced facial keypoint detection, which detects facial landmarks with 68 points, but existing models had been organized almost solely with images of healthy individuals and low accuracy was presumed in the prediction of asymmetric faces of facial palsy patients. The accuracy of existing model was assessed through applying it to the movies of 30 facial palsy patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the sphenoid sinus (SS), which is significant in neurosurgery due to its proximity to vital neurovascular structures.
  • It involved analyzing helical CT scans from 49 patients (21 females, 28 males) to measure the volumetric differences in the SS between genders.
  • The results showed that males had larger volumes of the SS compared to females, with a statistically significant difference in side asymmetry, suggesting that gender-related factors may influence the size of the SS during the pneumatization process.

Purpose: To develop and validate a pachymetry-based machine learning (ML) index for differentiating keratoconus, keratoconus suspect, and normal corneas.

Design: Development and validation of an ML diagnostic algorithm.

Methods: This retrospective study included 349 eyes of 349 patients with normal, frank keratoconus (KC), and KC suspect (KCS) corneas.

χ-translated microcomb generation in microresonators that possess both χ and χ nonlinear responses opens the door for ultra-broadband integrated comb sources. The interplay between the second- and third-order nonlinearities within a fixed coupling coefficient fertilizes complicated cavity dynamics which is of paramount scientific and technological potential. However, this coupling coefficient can be drastically wavelength-dependent, which is lack of consideration in previous studies.
