The C-symmetric uranium(iv) and cerium(iv) complexes MeSiOM(OAr), M = U (1), Ce (2), OAr = OCH-6-Bu-4-Me-2-PPh, have been prepared and the difference between these 4f and 5f congeners as initiators for the ring opening polymerisation (ROP) of l-lactide is compared. The poorly controlled reactivity of the homoleptic analogue U(OAr) (3) demonstrates the importance of the M-OSiMe initiating group. The incorporation of a nickel atom in 1 to form the U-Ni heterobimetallic complex MeSiOU(OAr)Ni (4) may be the first example of the use of the inverse trans influence to switch the reactivity of a complex. This would imply the formation of the U-Ni bond strengthens the U-OSiMe bond to such an extent that the ROP catalysis is switched off. Changing the conditions to immortal polymerisation dramatically increases polymerisation rates, and switches the order, with the Ce complex now faster than the U analogue, suggesting ligand protonolysis to afford a more open coordination sphere. For the ROP of rac-lactide, uranium complex 1 promotes heterotacticity at the highest levels of stereocontrol yet reported for an actinide complex.

The demand for insulating materials with superior dielectric properties has increased. Among these materials, polymers containing cyclic structure including cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) and cyclic olefin polymer (COP) stand out because of their excellent dielectric properties originating from the pure hydrocarbon structure. Introducing fluorine into polymers is one efficient strategy for optimizing the dielectric and the related important properties.

DNP (3,4-dinitropyrazole) has attracted much interest due to its promising melting characteristics and high detonation performances, such as low melting point, high density, high detonation velocity, and low sensitivity. In this work, first-principles molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were performed to investigate the anisotropic shock response of DNP in conjunction with the multiscale shock technique (MSST). The initial decomposition mechanism was revealed through the evolution of the chemical reaction and product analysis.

Background And Objective: In clinical practice, valve-sparing aortic root replacement surgery primarily addresses left ventricular dysfunction in patients due to severe aortic regurgitation, but there is controversy regarding the choice of surgical technique. In order to investigate which type of valve-sparing aortic root replacement surgeries can achieve better blood flow conditions, this study examines the impact of changes in the geometric morphology of the aortic root on the hemodynamic environment through numerical simulation.
Methods: An idealized model of the aortic root was established based on data obtained from clinical measurements, including using the model of the aortic root without significant lesions as the control group (Model C), while using surgical models of leaflet reimplantation with tubular graft (Model T), leaflet reimplantation with Valsalva graft (Model V), and the Florida sleeve procedure (Model F) as the experimental groups.

Context: This study meticulously examines the criteria for assigning electron rearrangements along the intrinsic reaction coordinate (IRC) leading to bond formation and breaking processes during the pyrolytic isomerization of cubane (CUB) to 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene (COT) from both thermochemical and bonding perspectives. Notably, no cusp-type function was detected in the initial thermal conversion step of CUB to bicyclo[4.2.

Compared to aziridines, azaphosphiridines, which formally result from the replacement of a carbon atom by phosphorus, have been much less studied. In this work, accurate values for one of the most prominent properties, the ring strain energy (RSE), have been theoretically examined for a wide range of azaphosphiridine derivatives. Strongly related aspects of interest for developing the use of azaphosphiridines in heteroatom and polymer chemistry are ring opening reactions and polymerisations, the latter facilitated by their significantly high RSE.
