A simple ratiometric terpyridine-Cd(ll) complex was synthesized by the treatment of CdCl with terpyridine ligand 4'-(4-N,N'-dimethylaminophenyl)-2,2':6',2″-terpyridine. The synthesized complex was found to act as a selective fluorescent chemosensor for pyrophosphate PO (PPi) over other anions like F, Cl, Br, CO, SO, AcO, NO, and HPO. Furthermore, the receptor probe was also successfully employed in HeLa cell for PPi detection, which indicates this can be used as a chemosensor for cells.

Objective: The objective of this study is to determine speech outcome differences for specific palate repair techniques and correlate these data with patient age at the time of operation.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on a cohort of consecutive nonsyndromic patients who underwent cleft lip and/or palate repair at the authors' hospital between 2010 and 2020. Only those patients who participated in at least 4 years of follow-up accompanied by audio-video recording were included.

Objective: Inflammatory characteristics in pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) may enhance the diagnostic capability of radiomics techniques for identifying vulnerable plaques. This study aimed to evaluate the incremental value of PCAT radiomics scores in identifying vulnerable plaques defined by intravascular ultrasound imaging (IVUS).
Methods: In this retrospective study, a PCAT radiomics model was established and validated using IVUS as the reference standard.

The incorporation of photoactive organic dyes into layered inorganic materials enhances their optical and chemical properties, making them ideal for sensing applications. In this study, Bisindolyl methane (BIM)-based neutral probes were integrated with bentonite clay to explore their sensing capabilities. Probe 1 (unoxidized BIM) and Probe 2 (oxidized BIM) generally exhibited quenched luminescence in solution due to intramolecular rotations.

This research study critically evaluates the concentrations of selected pharmaceuticals found within wastewater and at various stages within a selected wastewater treatment plant. The study further investigates the effects of seasonal variation, between wet and dry months, on the removal of target analytes. To the best of the authors' knowledge, ivermectin in wastewater has not been investigated in South Africa.

Silver nanowire (Ag NW)/gold nanosphere (Au NS) binary plasma films were prepared using plasma coupling between Ag NWs and Au NSs. The plasma films formed by combining these two noble metals showed better sensitivity for SERS detection with a minimum detection concentration of 10 M for R6G compared to pure Ag NWs or Au NSs. After rational optimisation of the substrate preparation process, the substrate showed good homogeneity, reproducibility and stability.
