The fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a major phytophagous pest that invaded China in late 2018, posing a serious threat to local agricultural production. Therefore, we investigated the effects of maize, soybean, and sweet potato on the growth, development, and reproduction of S. frugiperda under laboratory conditions.

One-Step Process for the Regiodivergent Double Hydrocyanation of 1,3-Butadiene.

In industry, the two important nitrile starting materials, adiponitrile and 2-methylglutaronitrile, are primarily manufactured through the well-known DuPont process, which consists of a tandem sequence including first hydrocyanation, isomerization and second hydrocyanation. However, this mature process has the intrinsic defects of step efficiency and regioselectivity. Herein, we report a nickel-catalyzed divergent, one-step double hydrocyanation of 1,3-butadiene to produce either adiponitrile or 2-methylglutaronitrile in high regioselectivity.

The integration and interaction of cross-modal senses in brain neural networks can facilitate high-level cognitive functionalities. In this work, we proposed a bioinspired multisensory integration neural network (MINN) that integrates visual and audio senses for recognizing multimodal information across different sensory modalities. This deep learning-based model incorporates a cascading framework of parallel convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for extracting intrinsic features from visual and audio inputs, and a recurrent neural network (RNN) for multimodal information integration and interaction.

Tumor cell-intrinsic ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme Ubc13 promotes tumorigenesis, yet how Ubc13 in immune cell compartments regulates tumor progression remains elusive. Here, we show that myeloid-specific deletion of Ubc13 (Ubc13Lyz2) leads to accelerated transplanted lung tumor growth in mice. Compared with their littermate controls, tumor-bearing Ubc13Lyz2 mice had lower proliferation and effector function of CD8 T lymphocytes, accompanied by increased infiltration of myeloid-derived suppressor cells within the tumor microenvironment.
