The lower detection limit for 2 distinct crystalline phases by H magic-angle spinning (MAS) solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is investigated for a minority amount of cimetidine (anhydrous polymorph A) in a physical mixture with the anhydrous HCl salt of cimetidine. Specifically, 2-dimensional H double-quantum (DQ) MAS NMR spectra of polymorph A and the anhydrous HCl salt constitute fingerprints for the presence of each of these solid forms. For solid-state NMR data recorded at a H Larmor frequency of 850 MHz and a MAS frequency of 30 kHz on ∼10 mg of sample, it is shown that, by following the pair of cross-peaks at a H DQ frequency of 7.4 + 11.6 = 19.0 ppm that are unique to polymorph A, the level of detection for polymorph A in a physical mixture with the anhydrous HCl salt is a concentration of 1% w/w.

This study explores the production of furfural, xylose and methylxylosides through the methanolysis of wood flour using anhydrous HCl gas. The process involves methanolysis of wood flour with HCl gas under pressure to generate methylxylosides, which are subsequently converted to xylose and furfural via autohydrolysis in a Parr batch reactor system. The methanolysis was conducted in temperature-controlled HCl gas reactor employing 24 h reaction time and 50 % methanol content in wood flour.

The reactivity of LiLaZrTaO (LLZTO) solid electrolytes to form lithio-phobic species such as LiCO on their surface when exposed to trace amounts of HO and CO limits the progress of LLZTO-based solid-state batteries. Various treatments, such as annealing LLZTO within a glovebox or acid etching, aim at removing the surface contaminants, but a comprehensive understanding of the evolving LLZTO surface chemistry during and after these treatments is lacking. Here, glovebox-like HO and CO conditions were recreated in a near ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy chamber to analyze the LLZTO surface under realistic conditions.

Open experiments are an effective means of cultivating top-notch innovative talents. Based on student interests, research hotspots and our laboratory conditions, an experimental scheme was designed. In this experiment, polyethyleneimine modified carbon dots (PEI-CDs) were prepared via a one-step hydrothermal method using citric acid (CA) as the carbon source and PEI as the surface passivator.

In this study, anhydrous hydrogen chloride gas was employed to selectively hydrolyze hemicellulose from aspen wood flour utilizing a gas-solid system. Selectivity toward hemicellulose was achieved by adjusting the acid concentration inside wood flour to 36% during gas hydrolysis, so only hemicellulose and disordered cellulose would be degraded during hydrolysis. Process parameters included the moisture content of the aspen wood flour (20%, 40%, and 60%) and reaction times from 30 min to 24 h.
