Iron overload in transfusion-dependent thalassemia patients represents a significant public health challenge due to its high mortality rate and risks of severe complications. Therefore, developing safe and effective therapeutic modalities for managing iron overload is critical, as current animal models inadequately replicate human conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of intravenous iron dextran on hepatocyte morphology, liver iron concentration, and serum iron profile changes as a model for hemochromatosis.

Background: Impaired intrauterine growth, a significant global health problem, contributes to a higher burden of infant morbidity and mortality, mainly in resource-poor settings. Maternal anemia and undernutrition, two important causes of impaired intrauterine growth, are prioritized by global nutrition targets of 2030. We synthesized the evidence on the role of preconception nutrition supplements in reducing maternal anemia and improving intrauterine growth.

: High-volume online hemodiafiltration (OL-HDF) has proven to be the most efficient dialysis modality and to offer better clinical outcomes in patients on hemodialysis. Longer and more frequent dialysis sessions have demonstrated clinical and survival benefits. : A single-center observational study of the first one hundred patients on nocturnal every-other-day OL-HDF was conducted with the aim of reporting the experience with this treatment schedule and evaluating analytical and clinical outcomes as well as the patient and technique survival.

The relationship between folate concentrations and stroke risk remains unestablished, and the mediation effect of homocysteine (Hcy) and interaction effect of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase () gene polymorphism has yet to be investigated. This cohort study involved 4903 subjects derived from a Chinese community population. The association between folate and first stroke was examined in Cox proportional hazard regression models.
