Neonates with congenital heart disease (CHD) who undergo cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) are at high-risk for unfavorable neurodevelopmental (ND) outcomes and are recommended for ND evaluation (NDE); however, poor rates have been reported. We aimed to identify risk factors associated with lack of NDE. This single-center retrospective observational study included neonates < 30 days old who underwent CPB and survived to discharge between 2012 and 2018.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) pandemic significantly impacted the lives of patients and healthcare professionals globally. With rapid spread and severe illness, a great deal of healthcare resources including personal, funding, and hospital beds were dedicated to fight the pandemic.
Objectives: This survey looks to characterize how resources were allocated among Canadian cardiac surgery programs, and how this impacted patient care and outcomes.

Background: The pressure gradient between the ventricles and the subarachnoid space (transmantle pressure) is crucial for understanding CSF circulation and the pathogenesis of certain neurodegenerative diseases. This pressure can be approximated by the pressure difference across the aqueduct (ΔP). Currently, no dedicated platform exists for quantifying ΔP, and no research has been conducted on the impact of breathing on ΔP.

Background: Right ventricular myocardial work (RVMW) assessed by transthoracic echocardiography allows to study the right ventricular (RV) function using RV pressure-strain loops. The assessment of these novel indexes of RVMW has not yet been exten sively studied, namely in pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension (PH) population.
Objectives: to evaluate the relationship between RVMW and invasive indices of right heart catheterization (RHC) in a cohort of patients with group I and group IV PH and to compare with a control group without PH.

Background: Aetiological diagnosis and targeted antibiotic therapy are essential to improve the prognosis of patients with infective endocarditis. Molecular tests on blood have been reported to be effective in identifying the causative organism and are recommended when blood cultures are negative. The role of molecular tests on the surgically excised valve is still unclear and needs further investigation.
