strains isolated from the larval feces of the Mediterranean flour moth show antimicrobial activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The probiotic characterization of one isolate revealed a high auto-aggregation score, a hydrophilic cell surface, tolerance for low pH, no hemolytic activity, and susceptibility to all tested antibiotics. We used the red flour beetle , an established model organism, for the characterization of one probiotic isolate from larvae. larvae were fed orally with the probiotic isolate or the corresponding supernatant and then infected with either the entomopathogen or . Larvae exposed to the isolate or the supernatant showed increased survival following infection with but not . Heat treatment or treatment with proteinase K reduced the probiotic effect of the supernatant. However, the increased resistance attracts a fitness penalty manifested as a shorter lifespan and reduced fertility. has, pending on further research, the potential as an alternative model for the pre-screening of probiotics.

In this study, a thermostable β-galactosidase from OSU-PECh-4A has been isolated through diafiltration and size-exclusion chromatography. The enzyme consists of a heterodimer with a molecular mass of 110 kDa, with a small and large subunit of 36 and 74 kDa, respectively. The Michaelis constant (K) and maximum velocity (V) values for lactose and -nitrophenyl-β-d-galactopyranoside (NPG) hydrolysis were, respectively, 29.

Background: Tuberculosis remains an infectious disease of global concern, with potential impacts on respiratory and intestinal microbiota owing to prolonged broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy. Despite its potential to cause infertility, the vaginal microbiota of women with genital tuberculosis remains poorly understood. We comprehensively analyzed the vaginal microbiota in Chinese women with genital tuberculosis.

Acinetobacter johnsonii is a denitrifying bacterium commonly used as an environmental probiotic in wastewater treatment. However, research on its potential pathogenicity to animals is limited. During an epidemiological survey conducted from 2022 to 2024 at bullfrog farms in Guangdong Province, China, multiple strains were isolated from diseased bullfrogs during the low-temperature season.
