Published: July 2017

The dielectric properties of an active KTaO hybrid metamaterial structure and its tunability under external electric fields are investigated at room temperature by means of terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. Application of the electric field leads to an appreciable tuning of the dielectric loss, which is up to 17%. Meanwhile, the refractive index also changes appreciably. These findings are attributed to the internal space charge field in the crystal caused by the excited free carriers.

A rat model of cerebral small vascular disease induced by ultrasound and protoporphyrin.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

November 2024

Department of Neurology, Shanghai Fifth People's Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China; Joint Center for Translational Medicine, Shanghai Fifth People's Hospital, Fudan University and School of Life Science, East China Normal University, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Cerebral small vascular disease (CSVD) has a high incidence worldwide, but its pathological mechanisms remain poorly understood due to the lack of proper animal models. The current animal models of CSVD have several limitations such as high mortality rates and large-sized lesions, and thus it is urgent to develop new animal models of CSVD. Ultrasound can activate protoporphyrin to produce reactive oxygen species in a liquid environment.

Defect Pyrochlore-Type Mott-Schottky Photocatalysts for Enhanced Ammonia Synthesis at Low Pressure.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

June 2023

State Key Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry, College of Chemistry, Jilin University, 130012, Changchun, P. R. China.

The ambient ammonia synthesis coupled with distributed green hydrogen production technology can provide promising solutions for low-carbon NH production and H storage. Herein, we reported Ru-loaded defective pyrochlore K Ta O with remarkable visible-light absorption and a very low work function, enabling effective visible-light-driven ammonia synthesis from N and H at low pressure down to 0.2 atm.

KTaO loaded with NiO cocatalyst is an efficient photocatalyst that has been widely applied to various photocatalytic reactions. In this work, density functional theory calculations have been utilized to investigate the interfacial geometries, electronic structures, charge transfer, optical absorption, and water oxidation mechanism of the NiO(001)/KTaO(001) slab model. The formation of O-Ni and Ta-O interfacial bonds is thermodynamically stable, indicating a covalent interaction between the two components of the heterostructure.

Dielectric Relaxation, Local Structure and Lattice Dynamics in Mn-Doped Potassium Tantalate Ceramics.

Materials (Basel)

August 2021

Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering, CICECO-Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro, 3810-193 Aveiro, Portugal.

Alkaline niobate and tantalate perovskites have attracted attention as polar dielectrics for electronics and telecommunications. Here, we studied the polar behaviour, lattice dynamics, and local structure in conventionally processed KMnTaO ceramics using a combination of variable-temperature dielectric and Raman spectroscopies, and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) measurements, respectively. Mn doping induces a low-frequency dielectric relaxation in KTaO (KT), which follows the Arrhenius law with an activation energy ≈ 105 meV and the characteristic relaxation time ≈ 4.

Radio-sensitization is highly desired to reduce side-effect of the harsh dose of radiation therapy (RT), for which nanoparticles with high atomic number elements provide a promising tool. However, insufficient knowledge on utilizing the interaction between nanoparticles and cancerous cells hampers the improvement of therapeutic outcome. We herein employed NaGdF:Yb,Er nano-crystals as the sensitizer, and modified them with a tumor targeting agent and a mitochondria targeting moiety, separately and jointly, to achieve varied extent of mitochondrial accumulation.
