In recent years, researchers have drawn inspiration from natural ion channels to develop various artificial nanopores/nanochannels, including solid-state and biological. Through imitating the precise selectivity and single molecule sensing exhibited by natural ion channels, nanopores/nanochannels have been widely used in many fields, such as analyte detection, gene sequencing and so on. In these applications, the surface functionalization of nanopores/nanochannels directly determines the effectiveness in quantitative analysis and single molecule detection.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia globally and is the fifth leading cause of death and disability. About half of all people suffering from the disease are living in sub-Saharan African Countries including Kenya. However, research on dementia has been almost exclusively focused on the Global North societies.

Background: Neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD), are composed of highly phosphorylated forms of the microtubule-associated protein tau. Phosphorylation results from the activity of several threonine/serine kinases, and increased expression of glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β). These are involved in the formation of paired helical filament (PHF)-tau, which induces the formation of NFTs.

Background: Although frontotemporal dementia (FTD) with right anterior temporal lobe (RATL) predominance has been recognized as a separate FTD subtype, a uniform description of the syndrome is still missing. This multicenter study, led by an international working group (IWG), aims to establish a cohesive clinical phenotype and lay the groundwork for consensus on terminology and diagnostic standards.
Method: Retrospective clinical data were systematically collected across 18 dementia centers.

For sustainable genetic improvement of crops like sorghum, assessing genetic variability and knowing the nature and extent of the association between grain yield and yield-related traits is a prerequisite. However, there needs to be sufficient information about the genetic variability study as well as yield-related trait correlation and path coefficient analysis for sorghum accessions, especially those from southern Ethiopia. Hence, this field experiment assessed genetic variability, determined the nature and extent of phenotypic-genetic correlation, and analyzed the path coefficients among 17 quantitative traits.
