We demonstrate that closure tables are an effective data structure for developing database-driven applications that query biomedical ontologies and that require cross-querying between multiple ontologies. A closure table stores all available paths within a tree, even those without a direct parent-child relationship; additionally, a node can have multiple ancestors which gives the foundation for supporting linkages between controlled ontologies. We augment the meta-data structure of the ICD9 and ICD10 ontologies included in i2b2, an open source query tool for identifying patient cohorts, to utilize a closure table. We describe our experiences in incorporating existing mappings between ontologies to enable clinical and health researchers to identify patient populations using the ontology that best matches their preference and expertise.

Background: Prone transpsoas lumbar interbody fusion (PTP) is a newer technique to treat various spinal disc pathologies. PTP is a variation of lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) that is performed with the patient prone rather than in the lateral decubitus position. This approach offers similar benefits of lateral spinal surgery, which include less blood loss, shorter hospital stay, and quicker recovery compared with traditional open spine surgery.

Despite being studied for almost two centuries, aromaticity has always been a controversial concept. We previously proposed a unified aromatic rule for π-conjugated systems by two-dimensional (2D) superatomic-molecule theory, where benzenoid rings are treated as period 2 2D superatoms (3π-N, 4π-O, 5π-F, 6π-Ne) and, further, bond to form 2D superatomic molecules. Herein, to build a 2D periodic table, we further extend the theory to period 3 (7π-P, 8π-S, 9π-Cl, 10π-Ar) and period 1 (1π-H, 2π-He) elements.

Introduction: Surgeons prioritize scar appearance after surgery, making suture choice crucial. Traditionally, non-absorbable sutures were standard but require removal, causing patient discomfort and extra visits. Absorbable sutures, while offering convenience, might raise concerns about scar quality.

Axillary breasts are a common entity with a reported incidence of 2 to 6% in women and 1 to 3% in men. They are more common amongst Asians than Caucasians, namely amongst South East Asians and Indians, with the highest incidence amongst Japanese. While modalities like CoolScupting™, Kybella™ injections, and BodyTite™ have been used by surgeons for management of axillary breasts, the most effective treatment for this condition remains surgical management involving a combination of liposuction of the axillary breast with excision of the gland and skin.

The circumareolar approach is one of the most popular and versatile in breast surgeries. Nevertheless, this approach usually implies a closure under tension which could lead to areolar distortion, scar widening and hypertrophic scarring. To prevent these complications, different surgical adjustments to this technique have been proposed, such as the Hammond's "Interlocking Gore-Tex suture.
