Introduction: Endometrial cancer is the one of the most common cancers of the genital organ. HE4 and MMP2 are both proteins whose serum levels increase in endometrial cancer.
Aim: To explore the diagnostic potential of the serum levels of HE4 and MMP2 in patients with endometrial cancer and benign endometrial diseases. To assess the relationship between the serum levels of HE4 and MMP2 and the typical prognostic factors in patients with endometrial cancer.
Materials And Methods: Included in the study was a group of 112 patients presenting with bleeding abnormalities at the Pomeranian Medical University in years 2012-2016. Serum HE4 concentrations were measured using the Elecsys Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay (ECLIA). MMP2 concentrations were quantified in the serum using multiplex immunoassays.
Results: We observed statistically significant differences in mean serum levels of HE4 and MMP2 between the group of endometrial cancer patients and the group of patients with no changes in the endometrium (=0.002/0.003). The diagnostic potential of HE4 and MMP2 in differentiation of high (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics [FIGO] III and IV) vs low (FIGO I and II) clinical stage of tumor and prediction of cellular differentiation grade (G1 vs G3) on the basis of the analysis of the area under the curve is, respectively, 0.86 and 0.82 for HE4 and 0.82 and 0.74 for MMP2. The HE4 marker was significantly more specific than MMP2 in every study group and amounted to 93% vs 86% in all patients included in the analysis, 94% vs 84% in pre-menopausal patients and 84% vs 79% in post-menopausal patients.
Conclusion: HE4 and MMP2 are characterized by high specificity and may be useful as biomarkers in the diagnostics of endometrial cancer. When determined preoperatively, HE4 is correlated with the prognostic factors of endometrial cancer and may be helpful in the planning of individual treatment of endometrial cancer patients.

Ovarian cancer (OC) has an unfavorable prognosis. Due to the lack of effective screening tests, new diagnostic methods are being sought to detect OC earlier. The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentration and diagnostic utility of selected matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) as OC markers in comparison with HE4, CA125 and the ROMA algorithm.

To explore the regulatory effect of human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) on renal fibrosis in mice with lupus nephritis (LN) and the underlying mechanism. Ten-week old MRL/LPR mice were injected with HE4 shRNA adenovirus vector through the renal pelvis for 5 days. Renal tissues were extracted for HE and Masson staining to evaluate pathological changes and fibrosis in lupus nephritis mice.

Objective: To compare the efficacy of paclitaxel liposomes combined with carboplatin and paclitaxel combined with carboplatin in the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer and assess their effects on serum human epididymis protein 4 (HE4), CA125, CA199, matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP2), MMP-7, and MMP-9 levels.
Methods: In this observational study, 102 patients with advanced ovarian cancer were assigned to receive paclitaxel liposomes combined with carboplatin (Group A) or paclitaxel combined with carboplatin (Group B). Clinical efficacy; serum HE4, CA125, CA199, MMP-2, MMP-7, and MMP-9 levels; and the occurrence of adverse reactions were compared between the groups.

Endometriosis is a chronic benign hormone-dependent condition when the endometrial tissue, identical with the endometrium by its morphological and functional properties, grows outside the borders of the uterine mucous membrane. Recent studies have pointed to the possible role of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. We suggested a hypothesis that increased expression of MMPs activity in eutopic and ectopic endometrium of patients with endometriosis might correlate with the presence of endometriotic lesions.

Purpose: To explore the efficacy and safety of docetaxel (DTX) + cisplatin (DDP) and paclitaxel (TAX) + DDP and their effects on serum human epididymis protein 4 (HE4), carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) and risk of ovarian malignancy algorithm (ROMA) index in the treatment of ovarian carcinoma.
Methods: A total of 90 patients admitted and treated in our hospital from February 2017 to June 2018, with definitely diagnosed ovarian carcinoma via pathological biopsy were selected. The included patients were randomly divided into two groups: DTX+DDP group (n=45) and TAX+DDP group (n=45).
