Arteriosclerotic heart disease in the elderly.

Cardiol Clin

Published: May 1986

Arteriosclerotic heart disease is now the most important cause of morbidity and mortality in the elderly. Clinical presentation may be less typical than in younger patients, and therefore, a high index of suspicion is necessary. Although selectivity is required in regard to investigations, age should not deter the physician from establishing a diagnosis and quantifying the extent of the coronary artery disease. In this way, management will prove rewarding in terms of both symptomatic relief and prolonged survival with improved quality of life.

Background: Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is an irreversible and usually fatal lung disease. In recent years, the therapeutic role of exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSC-exos) in anti-fibrotic treatment has received much attention. In this study, we aimed to determine the anti-fibrotic properties and related molecular mechanisms of MSC-exos in Bleomycin(BLM)-induced PF.

Background: Heart failure is extremely harmful to human health and social economics. The purpose of standardized heart failure management center (SHFMC) is to correct the non-standardization of heart failure treatment.

Hypothesis: SHFMC has a positive impact on the management and prognosis of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF).

Aloe Emodin Alleviates Radiation-Induced Heart Disease via Blocking P4HB Lactylation and Mitigating Kynurenine Metabolic Disruption.

Clinical Research Institute, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Hengyang Medical School, University of South China, Hengyang, Hunan, 421001, P. R. China.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study identifies protein disulfide-isomerase (P4HB) as a new target for lactylation, showing that aloe emodin prevents lactate binding to P4HB and stabilizes kynurenine metabolism by inhibiting the enzyme GOT2 in damaged mitochondria.
  • * Mechanistically, aloe emodin regulates a pathway involving PTGS2 and SH3GLB1 to reduce mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress, revealing its potential as a therapeutic strategy for radiation-induced heart damage through the modulation of lactylation.

Purpose: Limited data are available regarding endovascular therapy of arteriosclerotic lesions of the deep femoral artery (DFA). In this study, we compare the outcomes of atherectomy combined with drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty and open repair of DFA lesions.

Methods: This is a multicenter retrospective registry of patients with peripheral artery occlusive disease Rutherford categories 2 to 5 treated by surgical profundaplasty (SP) or atherectomy followed by DCB for DFA lesions (symptomatic DFA).
