Three alpha-adrenoceptor antagonists with different subtype selectivity were administered IP at the beginning of the light period of the illumination cycle to rats whose sleep-wake pattern was subsequently recorded for 12 hours. Yohimbine (1 mg/kg) initially increased active wakefulness but did not affect REM sleep. Phentolamine (10 mg/kg) and prazosin (0.5 and 1.0 mg/kg) increased the amount of REM sleep during the latter half of the light period. The mechanism of this delayed increase in REM sleep may be related to a greater extent of alpha-receptor binding as well as an optimal, moderate concentration of prazosin and phentolamine in the brain during the latter half of the light period.

Background: Microbiota of the distal part of the intestine produces Urolithin A (Uro A) as a derivative of ellagitannins hydrolysis. Recently, the mitophagy, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties of Uro A have focused more attention on its probable beneficial effects on neurodegenerative states. The purpose of this research was to study the impact of Uro A on the histopathology of the cerebellum in a rat model of streptozotocin-induced Alzheimer's disease.

Background: Neurobehavioral distress significantly impacts people with dementia. Lighting interventions have shown positive effects in this population, yet most did not accommodate natural daylight. This study developed an innovative, bright light system, the smart ambient bright light (SABL), that provides auto-controlled, consistent indoor lighting and accommodates natural daylight.

Objective: To investigate the protective effect and mechanism of tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) inhibitor C25-140 on acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by acute diquat (DQ) poisoning in mice.
Methods: A total of 80 SPF grade healthy male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into the normal control group, DQ model group, C25-140 intervention group, and C25-140 control group, with 20 mice in each group. The DQ poisoning mouse model was established by using one-time intraperitoneal injection of 1 mL of 40 mg/kg DQ solution.

The compositional heterogeneity of clinopyroxene in products of the 1888-90 eruption at La Fossa of Vulcano has been used to constrain times of the plumbing system reactivation before the eruption. We have also investigated the temporal trend of the SO flux at La Fossa crater since 1978 to gather information about the origin, depths and quantity of magma involved in the recent degassing crises. Petrological data emphasizes migration of deep-seated magmas and their emplacement in the shallow system, clearly supporting the involvement of three distinct phases of mafic replenishments occurred respectively 85-140, 16-35 and 2-7 years before the 1888-90 eruption.
