The magnesium is the 4th cation in the human body behind sodium, potassium and calcium. It is often referred to as the forgotten cation of modern medicine because of a lack of knowledge about its physiology and its potential medical use. Recent medical literature has shown renewed interest for the magnesium with publications about its role in diversified fields from prevention of muscular cramps, cardiovascular risk factors prevention trough to neuroprotection in stroke. However, we cannot recommend the use of magnesium in adults in our clinical practice, beyond the simple correction of hypomagnesemia, pre-eclampsia and possibly the treatment of torsades de pointes.

Following a request from the European Commission, the EFSA Panel on Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens (NDA) was asked to deliver an opinion on a mineral salt, containing potassium and magnesium, as a novel food (NF) pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2015/2283. The NF is a mineral salt that consists mainly of magnesium potassium trichloride hexahydrate. The information provided on the composition is sufficient for characterising the NF and does not raise safety concerns.

Background: Many studies have reported the renal outcomes and metabolic consequences after augmentation cystoplasty (AC), however few studies have discussed changes in renal tubular function. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of metabolic disturbances, evaluate renal tubular function and 24-hour urine chemistry to evaluate the association between metabolic alterations and urolithiasis after AC.
Methods: We investigated serum biochemistry, blood gas, and 24-hour urinary metabolic profile of children who underwent AC between January 2000 and December 2020.
This study investigates the nutritional and anti-nutrient profiles of extrudates produced from seven formulations of pearl millet and Bambara groundnut flour in seven different ratios: 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, 50:50, 60:40, 70:30, and 80:20, with 100% pearl millet and 100% Bambara groundnut extrudates used as controls. The extrudates were processed using a twin screw extruder and analyzed for their nutritional and anti-nutritional properties. The findings revealed a rising pattern in the content of fiber, moisture, protein, ash and fat as the substitution of Bambara groundnut increased in the extrudate.
